Take a paper clip. In every cd/dvd rom there is a very small hole on the front plate. You would probably never notice it. Stick the paper clip into the hole and the tray will open. Maybe you have a stuck cd in there. Hopefully it will work after that on it's own again.
Is the light on it working?
You didn't say if you have a pc tower or a lap top as further trouble shooting will require knowing this.
