Mitsubishi WS-55511 - No Power - No Blinking Light

I have read several posts in these forums, none of which give a blinking light. I can hear a very high frequency when plugging the cord into a power outlet, but I cannot get any power from the control panel...nor can I get the blinking light. Help?

Who would have a power supply? Is it something that a half-wit could install?

  • getsarge Aug 19, 2008

Is there a way test to see if it's the power supply?

  • getsarge Aug 19, 2008

I have access to an TV broadcast engineer, I'm fairly savvy myself and I can take instruction quite well.

No rating on the meter, I reckon that's a great piece to replace. Looks like a simple cut, unscrew, put new piece on, solder, and screw back on. Who is a viable source to order the part through?
    - Thanks

  • getsarge Aug 24, 2008

Sorry, my last comment was vague. The DM power board still shows the green light in the bottom...I'm guessing it's ok (not the blinking light, steady small green light).
The Horizontal Output Transistor shows no activity when connected to a meter, which I'm guessing is the problem.
Who is a viable source for parts?
    -Thanks EC

Try unplugging power for a couple of hour s before proceeding with anything else, I know it sounds silly but it is first thing to try.
If you get no light at all it is probably power supply fuse gone.

T could be a coolant leak around the signal board that's causing your problem,
Look for a thin film of liquid or an oily substance on the board around the base of anyone of the CRT's and the 24 volt line is might be held low because of a bad vertical output IC or a convergence IC. you should take it to a repairman....

The noise you are hearing is from oone or more parts in the switch-mode power supply that are oscillating. If this is all you get when attempting to startup the set, the problem is in the power supply itself or it is a dead short further along. The power supply it trying to work and failing. The first thing to check is the horizontal output transistor. This is a 3-legged part attached to a heatsink and shouldbe close to the flyback transformer (part with large red wire coming out of the top). Check this using an ohmmeter. You should read resistance when measuring between either outer leg and the center. If any of those read zero(0) in both directions, the part is bad and should be replaced.

Try that first. If that fails to resolve the problem, update this and we'll continue on to the next step.

Perhaps you mis-understood. Since the set is not powered up, there will be no voltage at the horizontal output transistor. You need to make the measurements I outlined above with the set unplugged.

Second: If the power supply does not kick in at all and the transistor measures OK, then we need to look at the power supply area itself. Close to the area where the AC cord connects to the board you should see some capacitors that have a value in the 2.2-4.7ufd range with a working voltage of 200V or more. Try replacing those caps and report your results here.

Dear,
do a dusting and about the voice that u can hear, can be because of drysoldering.. sometimes it happens that due to drysoldering or cracks, noise feels from inside.
check carefully for any drysoldering, more prob. at the power supply section..check main filteration cap. ..

You can buy it to a electronic store and if you have some knowledge with electronics you can do it by yourself but if not I suggest ask for someone who knows electronics and ask them to replace it for you or take it to a repair center and let them replace it...

    Good luck........

I have a mitsubishi model WS-55511. The green light keeps blinking. Have reset by unpluging and then pluging back in and holding the reset but for 5 seconds and press the power button. worked once, but...

TWO possible reasons for the blinking light:

1. The DM unit (caps and or fuses) are bad---no longer made and only (to my knowledge) PTS electronics repairs/rebuilds them.

2. Less likely but Possible: remove front speaker grill and inspection plate behind it----locate the two bundles of wires from front keyboard on set and follow them down and to the right---unplug both plugs and plug set in and wait 70 plus seconds and try to turn set on with Mitsubishi remote.

The blinking light is the DM trying to boot up--if set works with front keyboard unplugged---the tiny reset switch on it is bad.

If set does NOT work that way DM UNIT IS BAD.

Mitsubishi ws-55511 does not turn on

Listen: you need to wait for the set to first shut off! then push on the TV(not the remote) Input and Menu both at the same time for 5 seconds and then release---the power light will then blink---this model has this feature--

Mitsubishi WS-55511 Problem TV out - Getting only continously blinking green light on the front-panel

I had the same problem with the blinking light on the front of the TV and it would not power up. I read all the problems everyone was having and thought I was going to face a huge repair bill. The service guy came out, pulled off the front panel where the speakers are and disconnected the circuit for the front display panel. 3 1/2 minutes in my house, $90 service call. Apparently, when you give the TV too many commands at once, it's safety feature is to"shut down and lock up". He mentioned also that sometimes when these sets get to be about 4-5 years old, the wires in front can "leak" causing a shortage and then locking up the TV. I keep the circuit unplugged and operate the TV solely by the remote. Give it a try, what can it hurt!! Hope this helps.
