My question to you is ...Has the system ever operated correctly? If so then the problem most likely is in the head unit. So assuming that it has never worked correctly, I would say that you need to verify that the B+ is a direct connection to the battery. Something tells me that you have utilized a wire that is common to the neutral safety switch. Put the car in neutral to test for this. There are some other things you can do.Treat the system like a computer system with a hardware conflict. Disconnect ALL devices that are connected to the unit including the speakers and try turning it on with everything disconnected. Understand that this system is only to be used with IPODS that are 3rd gen and newer. Not all usb devices are compatible with all systems. I believe there is also a "Test Mode" the unit might be stuck in, look into that

I had just about the same senerio with my 1490LMT. I found out that the female USB port needed to be resoldered back to the board. I ended up getting a replacement from the retailer.

A further note that I try to pass along every chanc I get: Be very very careful about doling firmware updates via the Garmin Webupdater. The Garmin Webupdater has been known to corrupt the system file(s) on some units. Read around on the forums about this if you would like furthher information.
