The problem is not with the software. This is a hardware problem. Your mobile phones touch pad would have gone for a toss i guess. That doesnt have any relation with the firmware update. Am really sorry to say this, that this problem cannot be corrected manually. It needs expertise assistance. So please go to a nearby service center and get your mobile serviced properly!
Yes it can be fixed but you cannot fixed it by yourself, you will need software and flashing tools to do that or worst case scenario is that you might replace some damaged part on it, but it can be fix

i have the same problem with my w960i. what i did is replace a new touch screen. i brought to mall repair shop they qoute me 4,000 pesos. what i did is i bought a touch screen then , i ask the small time repair shop to replaced it, then it cost me 2,000 pesos all in.
It
happened 2 months ago on my phone after it fell 3 feet high.
Surprisingly after intentionally banging the phone face first on my
table (keep it gentle) it worked and has been OK ever since. I hope
