Download and install AVG Free, see below

http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

turn off system restore in my computer properties, restart pc but keep pressing F8 while its booting up to get into safe mode.

Choose start windows in safe mode, then use the administrator account to run AVG Free anti virus.

When scanned, restart pc and turn system restore back on again

go to internet explorer, tools, internet options and check that your home page is not the antispyware page and also check in tools, manage add ins to see if it's running with IE

We have a anti virus trojan downloaded on my home computer. Can we do a system restore? Running Windows XP Home edition. What can we do if this fails?

you don't have an 'anti-virus trojan'. you have a trojan that potentially attacks your anti-virus software ;)

a system restore does not remove files, it only reverts windows to previously installed settings.

you really want to get a program to scan for and delete/purge/quarantine dodgy files.

i really do recommend Spybot S&D (search and destroy) for finding these pests, you can get it from:

www.safer-networking.org/

it also helps prevent you getting infected in future. much better than antivirus software. this Anti-Spyware software actually does the job ;)

How to remove trojan, spyware, virus.

If you are unfortunately infected with trojan, spyware, virus, security 2010, you can follow this guide to remove them.

First, install an efficient anti-virus, I recommend you AVG. It is free, also it not use much of the memorey space.

Then suggest you download a PC celaner and do a registry scan, Virus always modify the registry making your computer corrupt.

I purchased the AVG Anti-virus & anti- spyware cd

Installing AVG might not be able to solve your spyware problem.

You could try downloading free mbam:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/malwarebytes/mbam-setup.exe

Double-click and install it. Then run it. Click the Scan button, It will detect and remove the Spyware Guard 2008

After clicking on OK button for scan is complete, you need to click the Remove Selected button when the malwares are listed.

Let the computer reboot if mbam needs that.
Then try installing AVG.

Just in case, you could also try booting from the AVG CD. If it's bootable, it will be able to scan your computer without the need to boot in to windows. Try it too.

Slow boot up

spysweeper could be the problem, as it may be checking over the system before the pc is allowed to run, also if you have got more than one antivirus if any (hope you have!) or spyware programmes, they all use up system resources reducing your memory and processor speed, check what you have installed.

Remember, some trojans cannot be found by some lower end anti virus programmes, and can only be found by decent spyware programmes.

Also if possible run any antivirus and spyware programme in safe mode, to allow you to run it faster (F8 on boot up and choose safe mode)

I have an hp laptop which has a trojan virus and will no alow me to do anything. Do i have to pess alt F10 to start reboot as i do on my sons acer

hopefully you have an anti virus/spyware programme installed, if so keep pressing F8 on boot up to get you into safe mode, this will not allow the trojan to run.

When you get the list on screen choose safe mode, then when windows starts, choose the administrator account, go straight to my computer>properties>system restore tab, and turn off system restore.

Run your anti virus programme and then when the trojan is found and then reboot pc, then turn system restore back on.

First thing to do is to download and run a decent anti-virus and anti-spyware program. The best free ones at the moment are AVGfree and AVGAS which are available for download from; http://www.free.grisoft.com/ Download the 2 programs, install them, update them, and then run a full system scan - first with the anti-virus then with the anti-spyware program. Hopefully they will find and deal with your trojan. Please ask again if you need more info, the AVG programs are very clear and simple to use :)

VIRUS INFECTION , YOUR SYSTEM IS INFECTED

this is what sounds like a trojan or for of spyware, probably disguised as a screen saver. If you have no anti virus installed download this programme for free http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free If you have no anti spyware programme download this for free. http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5 on the laptop press Ctrl, Alt & delete or right click on task bar to get to the task manager and on the processes tab look for the scrensaver.exe or similair that is running, click on it and press end process. this should allow you to work with windows Install the programmes, then go to system restore tab in my computer>right click>properties>system restore tab and click 'turn off system restore'(this will stop any virus or spyware backups reinstalling). Run both the programmes and remove any spyware or virus. If it still appears you may have to uninstall it safe mode, which is press F8 key on start up and select 'start windows in safe mode' and run the antivirus and spyware programmes again.
