Creating an unlock code file:
Plug your Garmin device into the USB port.
Double-Click on My Computer or Computer located on the desktop.
Double-Click on the Garmin or nüvi drive.
Double-Click on the Garmin folder.
Right-Click in a blank space in this window.
Move your mouse over the word New.
Select Text Document.
Press Enter / Return on your keyboard.
Double-Click on the New Text Document. This will open the New Text Document in a window called Notepad.
Type the unlock code that is listed in the Manage Maps section of your myGarmin account in all upper-case letters with no spaces before or after.
Select File.
Select Save As.
Change the Save As Type to All Files.
Type gmapprom.unl in all lower-case letters for the File name.
Select Save.
Close the Notepad window.
Delete the New Text Document file.
Disconnect the GPS device from your computer.

your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your

REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.
A file is probably missing or corrupt in your Nuvi. You can call Garmin at 1-800-800-1020 and their software techs can remotely connect to your computer to check the files on your GPS to see if they are ok or not. There is a method where they create a file with your 25 digit unlock code in a certain directory to unlock the maps, but that information can only be received from Garmin.
