Only getting EMachines/Windows XP Logo when boot up T3882

After a power blink, my EMachines T3882 will only boot up to the EMachines/Windows XP logo. I tried the recovery discs I made when I purchased the computer, but nothing. The manual seemed to imply I should reload the operating system when this happens, but this computer did not come with the XP Home disc. I tried to use my XP Professional disc, but nothing.

Is this computer dead or can it be fixed?

I send this to both egadgetguy and sandrew:

First, thanks to both of you for responding to my post.

    Here is my situtation:

When I turn the computer on, all I get is the XP green meadow/ hill landscape with "emachines" going up the hill ( I don't get any icons, no start, no other toolbox, etc at the bottom), just this one picture surrounded by black and then my monitor goes blank. When I hit "ctrl-alt-del" the XP green meadow/hill, etc. comes back, but that's it. Over and over it will do this.

I do get a curser, but no matter whether I right click, left click, scroll, I get nothing but the same.

I have tried pressing F2 and Del as I bootup to try to bring up my BIOS or safemode even, but I get nothing but the same.

I have tried to run the recovery CD after bootup and as booting up, but nothing. Same with Windows XP Professional disc. It seems to read the disc to some degree ( the CD drive light on the front of the tower blinks and the machine makes the same sound you hear when you put in a disc and it auto-runs), but then it just gives me nothing else.

I sure hope you guys can help. I am a homeschooler and my kids sure need this computer....

Were you booting from the recovery CD? re-installing windows will mean starting from scratch. Also, have you tried booting into safe mode? it could just be a corrupted config file. Booting into safe mode MAY solve it.

You have to press and hold F1 until it shows that it's loading BIOS. Then check the boot sequence. The CDROM sohuld be first.

Booting into safe mode is another story.

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

You have not set the cdrom as first boot device in the bios (press F2 or Del on boot up to get in bios), choose cd as first boot device, save settings and restart the pc with your cd in the drive and then when prompted press enter

How to skip logo and long boot sequence

That is booting directly into XP. The Windows XP logo that you stare at for a few minutes is actually hiding a whole lot of back end system checks. Without the logo you would be looking at a blank screen. There is a difference in load time, but it's about 2 seconds.

There are many ways. Before windows 7 it might be more difficult but now this OS will not erase your hard disk so you can install it and it willcreata a windows.old folder with your old information and folder system will be intact.

My eMachines T3882 with Windows XP just reboots over and over

Sounds like a sick hard drive. When it starts to reboot, press F8 and choose Windows Diagnostic Test. It will show a hard drive failure if one exists. If it finds a hard drive error, the hard drive is junk and needs replacing. Once replaced, you can run your restore/recovery disk to install Windows back to the condition it was in when you bought it.

Wont load passed windows xp screen

Try holding down the "F-8" key when the emachines logo appears, see if you get a prompt for "safe mode". If you can get the system up and running in safe mode, shut it back down from the start menu. That should rewrite the boot sector and may clear the problem.

EMachines PC that has not yet been thrown out the window, but....

If this computer came with XP Home, and you don't have a disc, then they would have put the restore files in a separate partition on the hard drive. Do you have the manual for the pc? It's possible to recover your system without losing everything. What happened when you used the recovery disks and XP Pro?

Still having trouble with EMachines T3882

I feel your pain. I finally moved my pc to a room with no windows! But seriously, try a different monitor first. See if you can borrow someone's to just try it before you do anything else. If that borrowed monitor works fine, then you know what the problem is. (Which I believe is the problem.) By the way, what started all of your problems?

Emachines T3882 desktop w/one cd-dvd combo drive[no floppy]

Download the drive test for the hard drive. Put the drive in your other computer and run the test. If it test good on simple test do the long test. IF IT COMES OUT FINE, Run the Zero program and then try to install the O.S. Check your BIOS settings and make sure everything is set right. You are on the right track. You just did not know how to test the drive. If it is a Toshiba you will not find a hard drive test. You might be able to use the Maxtor or Seagate drive test. Use the windows version if you can. If you can't do any of the test, right click on the drive and check for errors.

Emachines 2792

pull the power plug as soon as the emacines logo comes on
and if that doesn't work pull out the power as soon as the first windows logo screen comes on. it should then come on and give you the option to start in safe mode or regular mode, choose safe mode then after it comes on in safe mode restart the cpu
then it should come on in regular mode i don't know why it works for my emachines cpu but it does . i'm looking at downloading a error fixing program because i'm doing this almost when ever i turn off my cpu hope this helps if not reformat your hard drive andput windows on again it worked last time i had this problem.
