MY SONY 42'' JUST SHUTS OFF BY ITSELF.THE LAMP REPLACEMENT MESSAGE HAS BEEN SHOWING FOR SOME TIME.WE REPLACED IT WITH A BULB WHICH WASNT NEW & ITS STILL DOING THE SAME THING.

If lamp in tv has not been replaced in last 2-3 years then it is time to replace it as tv shuts off and turns On itself is symptom of dying lamp that need to be replaced.
Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual.

3 blinks is normally lamp door ajar. that tv has 2 lamp switches one for the door and one for the lamp itself. i suggest having a serviceman check out tv.

if tv turns On itself after shuts down then its symptom of weak lamp as current lamp is reaching to end of its working life, tv requires lamp replacement.
Lamp replacement procedure would be written in user manual and its easy. Please buy Sony original lamp for good picture.

The projector's lamp cover might not be securly on or you might need a new one, or the projector has blown a fuse that can be replaced other wise it could be your projector but be sure to contact your sony dealer first.

If this is a Sony set,this blink code is saying the Lamp Cover is not secure. If the door is secured properly, the micro switch that monitors the door is broke.

If TV shuts off and turns On itself again then yes, bulb in TV is weak and need to be replaced.
Please buy Sony oirignal bulb/ lamp for your TV safety.

Seems like a defective lamp perhaps. Can you check the old one for same test you did? It's hard to test them with a vom or multimeter and get correct results.

I bought a True replacement from the PartsStore through Amazon.com and it cost me about $185, but it was a Phillips bulb and the full cartridge replacement. I went with the aftermarket bulb only replacement the first time, lasted less than a week and haven't resolved that issue yet.

You need reset the lamp timer after
replace the new lamp.In the remote control pres menu------setup------lamp timer----message do you replace a lamp appear----press yes----and ok.

The bulb replacement message is not triggered by bulb condition. It comes on after a given number of hours use. If you did not re-set the hours counter to zero when you replaced the lamp then you will get this message prematurely. Don't replace the lamp until it ceases to work correctly - colour balance wrong it it simply does not light.
