Kitchenaid mixer stops working after just a few minutes of use.

Probably a model number and a better fault description would help. Does it turn off like a switch or stutter & run down. What's required to make it start up again?

Jan 06, 2017 | KitchenAid Food Mixers

1 Answer

Won't run.

A complete mechanical diagram and schematic are posted here at Fixya on another thread. Do a search for KitchenAide Classic Diagram or Drawing. When they stop running suddenly like that, it is usually one of the brushes got jammed up and no longer is in contact with the armature's commutator plates. Use a coin to remove the brush caps at each side, clean the brushes, springs and caps with rubbing alcohol, dry them before replacement. If it still does not work, you have bigger problems that will require a substantial amount of disassembly to isolate.

KitchenAid stops working when anything other than liquid is in the bowl..

There is a non metal gear inside the motor head that is stripped and no longer engaging the worm drive. What happens when you try to assist the turning process (try it only on stir speed, sloooowwwww) if it starts to turn and then stops again then it is the gear I spoke of. It will require tearing down the machine, cleaning all old grease, to insure that you have no ground up parts in the grease, then replace the grease gasket and gear. Hope this helps

The KSM150PS 325W mixer does nothing until speed control is moved up to position 8 or 10. Then when repositioned back down to say 6 it may run for a moment but then stops. It might just click on position...

You need to adjust the mixer speeds. Obtain a copy of the KSM150PS Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com. Remove the screw holding the End Cover and locate the three screws from the Control Plate. All three (2 top left and right, and 1 bottom) must all be adjusted. 1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.

For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 280

It's a switch either in the control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which goes down between the inner and outer tube. As the water level increases the air in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to make the switch stopping the water from filling. This tube can get clogged and the switch won't work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.

It acts as if there is no power.

no safety interlock but it may be the speed adjuster. This is accessed by rear cover and turning small centre screw while powered up. Note electrical shock hazard. If in doubt return to appliance repairer.

Mixer stops working

It sounds like the attachments aren't aligning correctly. I had the same problem with a Kitchen Aid. The unit should be replaced as soon as possible so you don't end up paying for repairs.
