Download and install: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

this will allow you to delete the things that startup in the task bar. Windows will load faster, and you can open just the programs you want. This will not delete the program just remove them from automaticly starting up. RAM always helps. 1GB is the standard for XP to run very smoothly 2GB is the best

What can I delete on my computer to gain more RAM?

TSR'S These are programs that are instructed to load into memory upon starting windows, they sit in your task bar and do nothing except steal your ram, to disable them go to start/run box and type "msconfig" click on the startup tab and disable all the ones that you do not need, you might want to leave anti virus software running for example, you windows system will now load much faster and allow more available ram for program launch, graphics, refresh rates etc.

Sometimes windows is installing or configuring updates that takes windows a long time to boot. WebRepOverall ratingThis site has no rating(not enough votes)
If its not due to installation of a program or configuring updates then the only reason left is windows internal errors.

Will be playing world of warcraft and my fps will drop from 60 to about 8. stay there for a few minutes and then jump back up again. The problem occurs about every 5 minutes or so. i have an Nvidia 9600...

This sounds like a RAM problem. When a game is loading, it writes a lot of game data and textures to RAM so they can be called upon quickly. If your RAM space runs out during gameplay, FPS will take a severe hit due to data having to be loaded from the hard drive (typically thousands of times slower). This will continue until the game is able to load what it needs back into RAM, at which point the game will speed up again until it again runs out of RAM. If you only have one or two GB of RAM, adding more will solve your problem.

If you have enough RAM (at least 3 GB) then try closing all background programs and processes that you aren't using. Be careful with closing processes through Task Manager; only close them if you know what they are. A process's function can generally be found by Googling the process name. Task Manager can be accessed by right-clicking on the Taskbar, and clicking on Start Task Manager.

Upon startup, me comp tells me windows could not load due to a registry error. How can I wipe it and start all over again.

hello,

  1. turn off the system,
  2. remove the battery and insert it back,
  3. turn it on and insert a new windows CD (it automatically loads the disc, but if it does not, follow the processes below)
  4. upon turning it on,once it gets to the registry error part, press control (ctrl)+alt+delete 2 time
  5. it presents an option to you. select the start task manager,
  6. on the task manager blog, select new task,
  7. browse for the d: or d drive and start re running a new windows operating.
take care

Daughter bought computer hates it cause it is slow loading up

Check if there are a bunch of virus and spyware blockers running. The ones that run all the time HOG the resources. Also a bunch of those programs that continually look for updates. You have enough memory and likely the machine is fast enough. Websites pile on a bunch of toolbars... all the crud just slows things down.

My laptop's (Toshiba Satellite A105-S361)desktop doesn't bring the desktop icons and the task bar after I loaded AVG 9 antivirus software. Why is that? Would you mind give me a solution, pls?

The desktop icons and the task bar would generally dissappear if you have a virus on the PC. However, sometimes improper software installations may cause undesired results like we have right now. Instead of trying uninstalling anything, try restoring the system to a previous point using system restore.

New Acer Aspire one with one gig of ram seems slow. Will adding another 1 gig of memory make it faster? Will I be able to see the difference? Is this a difficult task to do?

Adding RAM, especially if your running Vista, will usually cure a lot of the problems related to speed. You shoul dbe able to see quite a difference in boot time and when loading programs in either XP or Vista.

Adding RAM is usually a very easy process. Certain care must be taken of course not to build up any static electricity of course. But after looking at the specs for the Acer Aspire, unless you are comfortable with taking laptops apart, I would take it to your local computer repair place and ask them to install it for you. THe slot is located underneath the motherboard and requires quit a bit of finesse to get to. Also, from the look sof it, you'll only be able to upgrade to 1.5 GB total of ram. So now it's a matter of considering if it's worth the trouble for an additional 512MB of ram. There will be a light improvement, but you'll have to wiegh that against the cost of the ram and installation.

A an Emachine T1090 with 128mb of RAM. System takes forever (10 minutes) to boot up. Once up and running it performs much better. Are there any known cures? Would adding RAM help?

Adding RAM would definitely help. What operating system are you running? You could run msconfig and try starting with a diagnostic startup. If the computer loads much more quickly, you could remove some of your startup items. Ask someone before removing anything though!

Icons and start lost

If you're looking for the quick launch icons on the task bar, right click on the task bar, click properties, then check the box that reads show quick launch, apply, and they should return.
