I know one pc is ok, but have you checked that you have the latest firmware for your router as this can stop the disconnections, i can confirm this as i reverted back to an earlier firmware version and it started dropping again, back to a lter one and all is ok.

Just check your wireless connection is not connecting below 24MBPS as it wont surf the net at less than this; this is not your isp speed but your wireless speed

Wifi not working on my sony vaio vgn-nw270f

make sure you turn the wireless switch on. It should be on either side or the front of the laptop.

Did you configure the new router and set the wireless on it?

If your internet provider is a phone company such as AT&T did you configure the router to be PPOE (and set the userid and password) and bridged the modem that goes into the router?

If your internet provider is a cable company did you set the router to be DHCP?

Does the Sony even see the wireless network in the View Available Wireless Networks list?

Did you put the wireless key in correctly?

You didn't by chance happen to hit the FN function key on the lower left portion of the keyboard + the key (F1 thru F12) that toggles the wireless on and off? The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit will have the wireless signal icon )))) or it will have the icon of a tower with the wireless signal )))).

Tecra 9100 wireless icon not showing in system tray. hooking up netgear n150. believe I should use WEP?

WEP is the first security system that was used for wireless networks. Unfortunately the code was broken by hackers some time ago. If you do a search on the Internet for WEP cracking programs you would find that there are quite a few of them available. Your router and wireless card should have the capability to use the WPA security protocol. This has not been cracked as of yet, so you shouldn't have to worry about someone hacking into your network.

When you setup your wireless network on the netgear it will ask you to create a "key" for your network. This is a password that any wireless system that tries to use your router must send before the router will allow the connection to be made. The more random you make your characters for the password the better your security will be. I would strongly advise that you use both upper and lower case letter, numbers, and even some punctuation symbols. The chances of anyone duplicating a mix like that . You can also program the Netgear router to only allow the MAC addresses you program in to access your network. That way, even if someone was to actually successfully guess your key the router would still not let them in because their MAC address would not be in the list. The MAC address is a 12 character code that every networking item must have for it to be able to be on any network.

Thank you for the opportunity to assist you in resolving your issue. Should you need further information or assistance please do not hesitate to let us know.

Sony Vaio laptop unable to detect wireless access point

CompuLayne: Hello bluebells953

Netgear is quite tricky as is with all other routers, but I don't think the router is your problem. Try to do the following.

1) Turn off Vaio laptop
2) unplug router
3) unplug modem
4) plug back in modem - wait for it to boot up
5) plug back in router - wait for it to boot up
6) turn back on the Vaio - log in and see if it sees the SID. If it isn't broadcasting, you might have to enter it in manually and select connect to non broadcasting network

Toshiba laptop running Vista loses connectivity

The problem is not Vista, the problem is the Netgear. I have seen this happen time and time again with both Netgear (primarily) and D-Link (often). That's why I *only* recommend Linksys.

Worst case - go buy one from Walmart (yes, they have 'em). Hook it up and see the difference. If, somehow, the problem persists, take it back, and you've lost nothing. But I'd bet (as they say down here in the South "dollars to doughnuts") that's your problem :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

It would be better with Netgear as the setup is easier but I go with Linksys because of the price.

WIRELESS SETUP CONNECTION FOR TOSHIBA TE2100

Go to the control panel. Open wireless connection wizard and configure it by giving the proxy setting of the router. There must be a DNS server to get you connected with the Domain.
First your os xp or vista
if u xp means go to network connection and see that tab, wireless network wizard and click next to open to next to next and click finish. It will appear in network connection windows. But u want to take airtel broad band wireless net key, and u open the tab if u finish ur network wizard tab. And it will open the icon it ask for key, u give it key to continue. It will ready to access the network, so this is the way

Good Luck
