Our Acer ph530 projector (which has a brand new bulb) will work for maybe about an hour and then the colors start flickering. It never goes black but the colors kind of invert themselves. I hope I am explaining this correctly. We have a fan that blows on it to help prevent it from getting too hot. What to do to fix this from happening? I will appreciate any help

Yes it did happen with the old bulb, and we thought that was the problem... We replaced it and it definitely is much better about doing it. It does not happen as often but I was concerned it was still happening. Is the color wheel something that needs to be replaced?

Hi rachelfitts,

A color wheel is something that is replaceable. You may need to contact Acer to check if they are selling out spare parts or ask for their authorized service center in your area. But if the machine is still under warranty you can make a repair request with Acer. Their number is 1-800-816-2237.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Sounds like the color wheel index is off or the color wheel itself is going bad. Could also be some other hardware or resource has gone bad. Probably not the lamp as you say it is new but it could be. Generally speaking the symptoms you describe do not fall under and easy, cheap, or quick fix.
Did this happen with the old bulb? If so then it is most probebly the color wheel. I've read that increasing the lamp power may help, this has worked for some people with the above mentioned problem, but may only act as a temporary fix. Then the flicker may appear in high power mode as well.

My Acer PH530 overheats and shuts down after 15 minutes.

Mine does the same. When it was still under warranty I kept sending it in to get it fixed, but Acer never fixed the problem (rather they caused more problems). I sent it in for repairs 4 or 5 times, but eventually the warranty expired (after they told me they would extend it from the dates of the repairs). I haven't found a solution. If you do please let me know. Anyway, I don't recommend this projector to anyone else. AND, I certainly don't recommend Acer's customer service. Their warranty is worthless.

This in not a lamp problem , but rather a Mainboard issue.

You will have to take it to a Service Centre to either be repaired or replaced.

Image flickers and colors off

I have the same problem as philvo. I was watching, the projector was operating normally, I heard a snap, there was a flash of light behind me I believe, and my Mitsubishi XD300U projector went to a black and white picture. That is all it will show now. All lights show normal operation. I would like to know if it is worth getting repaired. Does anyone have any ideas?

Optoma projector

DONT THROW AWAY YOUR BULB JUST YET!!! IT MAY BE THE COLOR WHEEL!

I have an optoma hd70 and was having the same problems. I also tried the "dust blob" tutorial, but unfortunately it did not work for me (and I ended up getting dust on the lens I couldn't get off myself). I started searching on the net for more answers and found some information regarding the angling of the projector. Apparently, if you tilt the projector with the back raised too high, the ventilation system does not work properly and this increased amount of heat damages the color wheel inside (this causes the wheel not to spin correctly and display a flickering effect...and that's also why it works for a few minutes on start-up but then gets too hot and the wheel skips and creates the flicker).

Luckily, I have a very extended warranty and was fortunate enough to send it in and have the dust removed & color wheel repaired/replaced. Now, I've lowered the stand for the projector to not have it tilting at such a high angle and haven't had any problems yet...but it does take awhile to get effected (had mine for about 1 & 1/2 years)

I know I should have probably just sent it for repairs in the first place...but who wants to miss out on having a projector for two weeks when a tutorial says I could've fixed it in like 20 miutes?!?! Oh well. Hope this helps someone...good luck;)
