I have dell inspiron1520. When I turn it on it give Missing operating system. Whel I run diagnostics it gives me ``error C0de 0148. What is the problem, and how I can fix it.

First, make sure there is not a CD or DVD in the drive!

Give some more information, like have you installed any operating system before, or made changes with operating system, which operating system this come with?

Sorry, the error code indicates IDE ERROR: status which means that your CD drive is bad or the circuit which controls it (the motherboard).

Step 1: Start the PSA Diagnostics

1. Restart the system.
   
2. At the Dell logo screen, press <F12>.
   
Note: Some systems do not have an F12 key, to access the boot options you have to press the <0> (zero) key at the Dell logo screen.
3. At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, then press <Enter> to begin PSA.
   
4. Write down any error codes listed.
   
5. Use the list provided in the next section to see what the error code means.
   

You do not need a new hard drive. You need to take the cd drive out (comes out like a drawer), count to ten and put it back in.

for some key are not workign you have to replace the hole keyboard, for slow problem it may be the operating system problem or harddisk problem, try to farmat and reload the os first it doesn't give any solution then run diagnostic it may give you the error for harddisk

This could be a problem with the BIOS, restart the PC and hit F2 as it starts up, this will take you into the bios, reset the bios to default setting, press F10, save and exit the bios, the PC will restart so perform another check and see if the same error code return.

Both of these are hard drive errors. Error 0146 is a failed hard drive or bad drive sector, and 0148 is that thew machine is no longer detecting the hard drive. Basically, your hard drive has failed and will need replaced. Replace the hard drive and you will be set.
