Question about Yamaha RX-V995 Receiver

1 Answer

Power Issues As soon as the you turn the power on, the unit and display powers up and then turns off immediately. After reading your post, I am wondering if it can be the fuse. I will check with an ohm meter, if not I will try your suugestion. Do you know the cost of the part?

Performing a product reset To reset your system, follow these steps:
  1. Turn your system off. Wait until "Saving your music information" disappears from the display
  2. Unplug the Acoustimass® module power cord from the power outlet
  3. Wait 60 seconds
  4. Plug the Acoustimass module power cord into a working power outlet
  5. Turn the system on
Note: After the reset, wait several minutes before playing stored music (stored music may not be immediately available depending on how many CDs have been stored). All other sources are available, immediately after the system is turned on.

How do i check to see what is causing my receiver to shut off

The amp protection circuit has been activated. Remove the power cord from the wall outlet immediately. Disconnect all speaker cables and input sources, and leave the AV receiver with its power cord disconnected for 1 hour. After that, reconnect the power cord and reconnect an input and a pair of speaker wires onto the unit. If the receiver still does not turn on than you will have to bring it in for service. Turn up the volume and if the receiver doesn't shut down, power off the receiver and add another pair of speakers. Power up the unit again and turn up the volume. If it doesn't shut down, power off the unit again. Now connect all your input sources and turn on your receiver. If the unit shuts down again, your unit will need to be further serviced at an authorized Onkyo service center.

GE Advantium 120 SCA1000DWW03 blowing 20amp fuse

Our unit was doing the same thing,
took it into the repair shop, they said there was nothing wrong with the unit, replace the main breaker that supplies power to microwave and try again.
Sure enough the breaker became defective, and we never had issues with it before, but now the unit has not had a single problem.

The display reads "protect".so i

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Hey im having issues ive had before but fixed easily i just cant remember how to do it. I connect my PS3 through hdmi on my dell W3201c tv, however, now it is saying OUT OF RANGE CANT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO...

Have you tried to reset the PS3's video manually. To do this you turn the unit off at the power supply. Turn it on. Press and hold the power button. You should after a lil time hear a series of beeps. Soon the system shoudl turn off. Turn it on with one touch and it should reset the video for detection mode and then select the monitor by itself.

The display turn off after few minutes (blank screen, no message). When it does that, the power led stay green. When I turn it off and on, the display work again for a few minutes and the same problem...

jackperson, Might be internal problem with the units power supply (ac line in to DC conversion) having shutdown issues. You will need to do some reading in my fixya profile for a while and then you will know what to look for inside unit. If not into electronic repair stuff, skip the reading and trade-in unit for new, if current unit is 4, 5, 6 years old. 12fixlouie

After powering up the display reads, "No Disc" and unit powers itself off after about 10 seconds.

Please update this with the make and model. With that info, I should be able to figure out what is happening. In generic terms, the unit performs some system checks when powered up. It seems that a problem is found that is causing the system to shut itself down. Any details about the unit and what you hear or see in addition to what you have already posted would be helpful as well.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,
Dan
