I have a PSC 2l10

By samanamber on Aug 18, 2008

I have a PSC 2l10 model. I just changed a black ink cartridge and cannot make it print. It goes through the motions and spits out a blank page. The color cartridge prints the yellow for the allignment, but no black. I took the cartridge out and put it back numerous times and nothing. No, the tape was not left on. The cartridge seems seated in the holder. I went through the steps you folks give under HP custome support, but - no change. The printer appears on and in ready condition on my computer. So, I opened another fresh ink cartridge and get the same results. I am, of course, running against the clock on a large copying project. It was working just fine when the old ink cartridge went empty. Can you help, please?

- leanbicycler: I do not refill my cartridges, and that was never mentioned in my email. I purchase Office Depot brand HP56 cartridges. I do not accept your answer. samanamber

- I do not refill my cartridges. I purchase Office Depot HP 56 black ink cartridges. I opened another package of black ink cartridge and tried it because the first one might have been faulty. I don't think both cartridges could be faulty. I have used Office Depot ink cartridges for many years, now. I need some more help to get this going. I don't accept this suggestion.

- I have tried to press the Setup button until Maintenance appears. However, it always says busy. I do not use refill cartridge kits. Thus, I don't have the tools that come with it.

- I need another answer. The first two did not do the job.

- To kakee: I don't find a "calibration test" listed in the index of the printer manual. The manual indicates to clean the print cartridges press "Setup" until Maintenance appears, and then press "Enter". As I said before, when I press Setup, I keep getting a "Busy" message. I cannot even get to Maintenance. I think someone should check the PSC 2110 manual to see what I have to work with. I certainly hope no one has charged my card yet because I have not had any satisfaction and I don't mean to be still about it. Samanamber

- kakee, you're going to have to tell me how to do a calibration test. I cannot find anything like that in the index of my owner's manual. I'll need you to spell it out for me. samanamber

- So far I've been told that I refill my print cartridges (I do not). I've been asked to clean my print head ( near as I can tell I do not have one). Can some one of the "experts" please check the manual for a PSC 2100 and give me a more accurate assist? I'm beginning to be sorry I chose the Preference Program. I have missed my deadline and the only thing I have to show for my contact with you all is a lot of "FixYa" emails that don't help, and my growing irritation. You had better not have charged my card yet because your "expert" assistance so far has been sadly lacking. samanamber

- To geemarie: Sorry to take to long to test your suggestion. I had Monday to work on the printer... So, I followed your instructions. We've had a "half" of a success, you and me. I get the lower half of black printed lines when it comes time to align the printer. So, I thought I'd try to print an email. It processes just fine up to where I press okay to print. Then the frame comes up to prepare to send a FAX! I've tried several other things to print to see if I could get a whole font print. Always it comes up to send a FAX. Obviously something in the program load took a left turn. So, geemarie, you haven't failed me yet - what do we do next? samanamber

Lets try a different route. Let's uninstall and reinstall the printer. Please take the folllowing steps:
Do You have the original CD to install this printer? If not go to this site below and try to locate the appropriate driverto download for your printer:

put the best cartridges back in
turn off the printer and unplug it
go to control panel and uninstall the printer ( do not do this if you do not have the CDor a new downloaded driver!) If you do not have the CD you can look for the driver here:(make sure you enter your correct model and your op system)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=91430&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=4&submit.x=7&lang=en&cc=us&y=3&x=5 If You can download the driver as follows for a clean download:

Turn off all your running programs including your virus control
(look in the lower right corner and click on each little icon there and turn off everything you can)
Now download the driver and SAVE it to your desktop
Click on it to install and follow the directions carefully. When it is finished, if it has not told you to reconnect your printer, do so now.
Restart your computer.
If you have any questions at all feel free to let me know.
Good Luck. Please let me know if this works and rate my solution. Thank You.

You said it prints yellow for alignment. Have you tried using the clean head option? Also try shaking the cartridge. Press the underside of the cartridge onto a tissue. See if there is a blot of ink. If none, shake the cartridge again. This means that the ink is not coming down.

- Disconnect the printer from the computer. Turn it off for about 5 mins then turn it back on. Go back and try to get into maintenance (While doing this leave the USB unplugged)

- The print head that all the experts are referring to is the print head on the cartridge itself that little strip colored in gold. THat is the print head. They are asking you to clean it because it may be blocked by dried ink. I asked you to use a tissue to check if it is discharging any ink. the reason for this is that inks have an expiry date as well. You said that it is unlikely that 2 of them will not work. it is likely because you bought them from the same store hence they are of the same manufacturer date and batch. Hence they will expire at the same time. Try to shake the cartridge then use a tissue to see if any ink comes out. If no ink comes out then it is dry and expired

your cartridges are perfectly ok.totally allright.do not spend on that any more.the exact problem lies in the circuit of the printer where you fit your cartridge exactly on the opposite side there lies a brown dotted circuit.just clean that circuit with moist tissue.then check.if still does not work then you have to internally clean it by opening the printer.this causes due to moisture or some dust particles at that area of your printer.

If you can't access Maintenance from the Setup menu, try this:

1. disconnect the printer from the computer
2. turn-off and un-plug the power cord of the printer, give it a minute or two then reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on (while still disconnected from the computer).
3. press the setup button on the printer again.

If it still displays "Busy", you got to accept the fact that the printer is malfunctioning since you already tried new ink cartridges.

Run the print-head cleaning mechanism and attempt to print a few pages.
If this procedure does not work, using the syringe supplied in your refill kit, inject air into the top air vent to clean the nozzles. A small amount of ink should be emitted from the nozzles upon injection. (The nozzle is the porous metal piece at the bottom of the cartridge)
If this procedure does not work your print-head nozzles are probably blocked with dried ink. At this point use the syringe to take out as much ink as possible from your cartridge
