D-Link DSB R100 Radio Input

D-link USB Radio (by 2 users)

By Hart - usenet poster

I have a D-link DSB-R100 USB Radio.  I am having a problem with the
radio playing sound through my speakers at Windows start-up.  It seems
like the radio is broadcasting radio station 87.00MHz, which is just
static.  The only way to make it stop is by opening the D-link USB
Radio software and then closing it.  I've tried downloading the latest
software and drivers from D-link's website, but that did not help.  I
sent a message to D-link's tech support a week ago, but they have not
replied.  This is annoying the hell out of me and I am desperate to
find a solution.  Does anyone who has this radio know the fix?  Thank
you.

I bought this device from CircuitCity in a free-after-rebate offer last weekend
and I am trying to get it working on a windows 2000 machine. For some reason
though the device manager shows this device and says it is working properly,
starting the radio program gives an error saying "Cannot find the FM Radio" and
suggests me to unplug and replug. I tried it for no avail. The program starts
after that but disables all the controls. Any clues on what might be wrong ? Any
suggestions ?

Thank you,
Hari

I don't have any replicator or hub on my machine. But I do have two ports at the
back and two at the front and all the four are supposedly directly connected to
the motherboard. But I though I should try connecting to the back anyway, and
guess what, it worked, but I don't think d-link recommended the same for this
device. It is a pain reaching the back of the pc. I already have 2 usb devices
connected at the back that I use regularly and I use the front two to hot swap
devices. In this case it is not going to work out this way.

But wait a min.... I just moved it onto the front USB port and it still works
(now the audio wire doesn't reach the sound card though). Don't know what is
going on though. Let me see tomorrow after rebooting if this still holds.

Thanks for your suggestion.
Hari

the radio app doesn't crash as much with the 600b;
just delete or move it out of start menu/startup and you'll be fine

I had the same problem so I took it out of the start menu.
had to restart the program to shut the radio off.
what I came to this discussion was to ask if anyone knows
of a 3rd party radio program that will control this device?
I dislike the interface. You'd think that D-link would hop on
board the skinning bandwagon like realplayer and WMP did. how about a
winamp plugin? that would b nice! i was going to return it but
compusa has a horrible 15% restocking of opened boxes!! scum!

Anyone got any leads?

Thanks

I had a horrid time getting my D-Link DSC-350 camera to work on my PC.
Turned out I was trying to use it through a USB port replicator.

My Dell had 2 USB ports on the rear but the computer is in a location where
it's a major pain to access the rear ports without shutting everything down
and moving the box. I had installed a 4-port USB replicator on the front
panel of the machine in a 3 1/2" slot and all other USB devices worked fine,
including my color scanner.

Finally, after a weekend of headaches, I stumbled across some fine print
that stated the camera needed a USB port wired directly to the motherboard.
Switched the one D-Link cable to the remaining rear port and the camera has
worked like a charm since.

Could this be the case with your D-Link device?

Well, in doing research on Google to find a resolution to my problem,
I found a review of the USB Radio on this website:

http://www.electic.com/Reviews /D-Link_USB_Radio/index2.shtml

Here's a quote taken directly from the review:

"...Finally the only way to turn off the radio from coming over the
speakers is to open the program - which is not running - and then
close it..."

This is exactly the same problem that I want to resolve.  What a piece
of crap this radio is!  Unfortunately, I'm passed the 30 day return
window, since that's how long it has taken me so far to try and
resolve this!  If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm open to them.
Thanks again.

sounds like windows problem; do you have it plugged into USB as well?
check device manager, too; the radio drivers aren't as plu&play as
they should be; here's the url for the latest driver/app
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/usb/dsbr10 0/Driver/

Try going to the sound mixer (double-click the little speaker icon on the
task bar) and mute the sound from the line-in. Then reboot the computer
(important) to save these as the default mixer settings. I have a feeling
that the radio application will unmute the Line-in upon opening and then
mute it again when closing.

Eric, thank you for your suggestion.  I tried your suggestion and it
sort of works.  You were right, the radio program will uncheck the
mute in the volume control.  So I would have to recheck it each time
the radio program is closed.  The other problem is the USB radio
continues to turn on and sound static through the speakers during
boot-up, until the volume control is loaded in the tray bar.  By
having the mute checked in the line-in under the volume control, I'll
hear the static for about 5 seconds while the computer is booting, but
I'll have to make sure the mute is checked each and every time I close
the radio application.

I'm still looking for a way to make the USB radio not send sound to
the sound card at all.  I wish D-link would respond to my tech support
e-mail.

That is where the card is currently plugged in. Each time I try
to open dlink radio it tells me "Cannot find Radio". I have
windows98 SP1 and the latest dlink from drivers. You didn't
plug the device into the sblive card did you?

Thanks for any info,
