Question about Computers & Internet

External Hard drives

Could you possibly advise me on the best & most reliable External Hard Drive to buy between:
1. NoTouch 500GB External Hard Drive USB2.0 with ContinuousData Protection Software - Retail (SATA)
2. Western Digital Elements 500GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive- Retail
(http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128465)

They are both currently priced at the same price.
I know that Western Digital HD is probably a better known brandbut I have read some reviews about their hard drives failing.
I am planning on using the hard drive to back up some files & mp3s etc. from my computer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

How do I start a manual backup with a Toshiba model 593400-A Convio 500GB drive?

Your ANSWER depends on your operating system?

FREE BACKUP PROGRAM CALLED: "EaseUS Todo Backup" takes ALL of the hard work and mystery out of backups! Find it here:
SO easy they are showing a GIRL doing it!

EaseUS Todo Backup Free

Diane, EXTERNAL USB 3.0 (backup) hard drives (at 500GB) are extremely reasonable now and MAY be your best bet for reliable and EASY backups! See eBay ~ not Amazon.

Heck since you won't be using that drive often
you can consider a USED External Hard 500GB drive (USB 3.0) for about $20! Diane, THAT is VERY reasonable "insurance".

Now be careful and READ the fine print! Be SURE you are NOT buying a case/enclosure ONLY!

Also know that many newer USB Drives have software that is often included.

Is it possible to open my Iomega Prestige 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive 34275 and replace the hard drive inside?

Hi,

Yes it is possible but the Iomegas are difficult to open and you often snap the plastic retainers in the process. Given you can buy a !TB comlete for only about $20 more than buying the raw drive I suspect you would be better advised to simply replace the unit all together,

External Hard Drive

If you plan to store movies on the HD, better buying a 1TB hard drive. WD Mybook is one of the best external HD.

To rip and store DVD movies into the hard disk you will need a specific software, like the ones below.

DVD Converter - convert DVD video to AVI/MPEG/DIVX files

Freeware converts DVD AVI MPEG WMV RM to MP3 or iPod Video

Movie2x Freeware DVD Converter Download

DVDx (freeware from labDV)

My laptop cant se my external hard drive

Hi hot_lips_swe

If you've tried everything possible to access it through the external, what I would do, is to dismantle the case around the hard drive, and take out the physical hard drive and switch the back pins to Slave, and add it to a desktop if you have one. (make sure you have your main drive as Master) Then as a slave drive you have a lot more options to recover your data. If you don't have a desktop, you can purchase a laptop port extender at your local computer store. Or you can buy you HERE, and connect it direct to the usb port. Your best way is to slave the drive on a desktop thou.

Good Luck

Software for 500GB

I don't think BYTECC sells complete external hard drives. But they do sell the enclosures. People buy the enclosures and install a hard drive in them and, now you have a working external hard drive. I have don't this before, but I have never used BYTECC before. You can download the drivers for there enclosures at there website:

http://www.byteccusa.com/

They have several different versions, Just pick the correct one, hopefully the enclosure has some markings or a sticker identifying the model.
