I have a Samsung front loader washer and barrel seems to be locking up I pulled the drain line from barrel housing assy and found large metal pieces in the line

The bearings have failed and it's caused major damage to the rear outer tank and the drum. Might be up for a new washer unfortunately.

Hotpoint wmf560 aquarius washing machine

BIG JOB !!! The whole machine has to be stripped down. Ie/ The complete bowl assy has to be removed from the machine, the outer bowl separated from the inner bowl, the main seal removed, and the bearings pressed or knocked out of the housing in the rear of the outer tub. If the bearings have failed , it would be almost certain that the drum shaft has worn and or been damaged. You will need a set of bearings, drum spider shaft assy, and main seal. If its an older machine, it may not be worth it.

Wt you mean by spin in washing machine

its a separate cycle all by itself.
Say U hand wash something in a sink and instead of wringing it out by hand U can put it in the washer and press this SPIN cycle.
So U can also use it to spin more water out of your garments after the regular wash and spin cycle.

Slower spin speeds mean -

  • Cheaper washing machines
  • Quieter washing machines
  • More stable washing machines
  • Longer lasting washing machines because there's less wear and tear on the bearings, motor, carbon brushes, suspension etc.*
  • Gentler on laundry
  • The drum spins for approx 4 or 5 mins. No water is added and you dont add detergent or fabric softener for the spin only option. The object of the exercise is to centrifugally remove excess water from the garments in the drum. They will still be damp but not sopping wet after the spin cycle
  • Spin takes the water out, extract is even better

I have an LG washing machine Model WM1814CW. It makes a loud clanking sound in the spin cycle and the back of the drum has a thick black greasy substance on it & has leaked onto the floor. What could...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. It sounds like it is your spin bearings. It would explain the grease and the noise also. The spin bearings have to do with the spinning of the washer. Usually, if there are loud noises associated with the washer, it is either the motor drive or the spin bearing.

I need to know how to remove the bearing from the drum. I have split the outer drum but can't get the shaft out of the back of the outer drum? My washing machine is a Hotpoint WT 960

this just takes a bit of mucle and time.

remove rear pulley and then refit screw (without washer) into shaft. screw the whole way in. then using a lump hammer knock shaft out. may take a good bit of hammerin.

knock bearing out then and also unclog the weep hole in bearing housing.

grease the bearing housing and press in new bearing and seal.

if old shaft damaged ( which prob is if hard to knock out) you will need to replace it.

screws holding shaft to drum usually impossible to undo so drill them out using a 8mm bullet bit.

fit new shaft, put some bearing grease on the bearing seal and re-assemble the drum

There is something in between the drum and housing. We have drained the washer and cleaned the filter still it is still there.

it seems like the drum will have to be removed to get to the offending object. it is probably stuck between the seal and drum, like a coin.

Bearing noise

You have to remove the outer tub assy from the cabinet then split the halfs, We're told the the bearings are part of the rear tub housing. You might be able to press out the bearings
