Try with some bootable DVD if it works that mean your diver is ok if not than you try to clean the lense of the drive with DVD lense cleaner, still if it doesn't work than you may need to change your drive.

I would sugest looking up the website for your specific computer. from there the best route would be the support page. most computer sites will ask you to check off which model computer you are using. if not try to find your specific computer and see if it can handle dvds also make sure everything is up to date as far as upgrades

Hi ruggie_p,

Since you have an Internet connection to your PC, you should download codec to your Windows Media Player for it to play DVD's.
Mine is Cole2Media.

Hope this helps you a lot.

Acer aspire 2930 DVD player only opens some dvds

Try Media player classic under k-lite codec pack. Then open video files on the dvd. If it doesn't help try another codec player. If nothing helps could it be that dvd player is not capable of multilayer dvd reading.

Pioneer dvd r/rw wont play a dvd

If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.

DVD-ROM drive reads CDs, but not DVDs Dell x-200

It shouldn't be a driver issue. DVD drives are natively supported by XP. What software do you have installed for playing DVD'? Windows Media Player 11 would be excellent, and it's free from Microsoft. PowerDVD and WinDVD are also good, but you have to buy them.

DVD Movie

By default, Windows does not include a DVD decoder (which is what you need to watch DVDs).
If you are using WMP10: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/plugins.aspx
If you are using WMP11:
http://savvybytes.com/2006/10/02/playing-dvds-with-windows-media-player-11/

Install the codec and you will be able to watch DVDs!
