Plasma Philips (42PF9630A) Top Half Has Artifacts

The top half of my plasma tv has developed artifacts... like those seen on a computer when the video card goes bad. What can this be and will the parts be expensive?? Thanks in advance.

Lawrence1974 thanks for the reply. The Y upper board handles the upper screen buffer so that makes perfect sense. What about the signal board, why would I need to replace it? At any rate, thanks again for the help!

Hello and let me just say that it is wonderful that you take the time to try and answer these questions! I am experiencing the exact same type of problem. I have the same set and it has 2200 hours on it and I had the ssb board replaced in April 2008. At the time it would lose all channels and had to have the software re-installed each time to get the channels back. As soon as the set was turned off it would lose everything once again. After the ssb board was replaced it worked slick for a few months. Then this. odd lines every where. So my question is this- how do I determine the name and numbers of the small signal board or the Y upper board? I have a service manual but it doesn't mention anything about these 2 items. At this point I don't have the money for another EXPENSIVE service call. Could I order these items from Phillips and replace them myself? What would they be called in the service manual? Are they easily accessible? Thanks pal!
By the way my model numer is 42PF7320A/37 slightly different than his model.

If the lines affect the On Screen Display (tv menu) then the possibilty is that the Y upper Buffer is stressed and ther is not a problem with your SSB. Just remember that any of the Y boards and can stress the other ones out and cause probelms like the one you have, but I would be safe to say that replacing the Y upper buffer would solve your issue

There is nothing you can do in the menu but a tech would need to be contacted. Bring up the menu and if the problem is not there replace the small signalbaord. If it is replace the Y upper board.

The SSB is the video processor If the problem is not in the SSB the SSB is good. Another way to determine if the SSB is bad is this and be very carefull when you do it. Take the SSB out the set and place a jumper on J8003 to short it.The place a jumper on J8004 to short it. They are located on the left hand side of the PSU.The place a jumper on CN2072 of the logic board. That is loacated under the SSB. Take the SSB out the set completely. Plug the set in and you will get a text patten. If the issue in the upper right hand corned is gone replace the SSB because we took that out of the set and the problem is gone. But if is is still there then replace the Ymain.I habe the part number for both.

For the Y main I will need the LJ92 number off the logic board for that part number. And for the SSB there will be 3 numbers by that one.Get me the number with the (S) next to it.

Ping/Green Bars on TV Display

I would first check and replace the cables to make sure you have clean signal. If that all checks out then I would consider putting in an amplifier in line to boost your signal. What is the distance you have on the cables all combined? Another thing to check in troubleshooting is to remove everything (cables) except the unit you are experiencing trouble with. If after all of this I would say your connection to your component itself is suspect.

Your Buffer boards or the YSUS main are bad. THe YBU-Y Buffer upper controls the top half of display, the YBL-Y Buffer lower controls the bottom half and the YSUS Main controls both those boards. They are located to the Far Left on and opened Set.
