Question about Sony KP-57WS520 57" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

KP-57WS520 9 LED blinks

I have a Sony WEGA rear projection TV, model: KP-57WS520

The standby light flashes 9 times, pauses, and flashes.
I opened up the TV to check the G board. Did find it and found
the Diodes D6116 and D6301. I noticed that there is a connector that
is connect to right, so to replace do I have to unsolder and then solder
the new board if I buy one. Where can I purchase a new G-board for this
model of TV.

Thanks for any assistance.
I really appreciate your help.

Same issue. LED blinks 9 times. TV will not power up. I called for service. They said the CRT needs replaced. Said could not be repaired at my house but that they needed to take it to their shop. I do not know the vendor Premeir TV Repair 419-462-5275, bit Geek Squad from Best Buy referred me. Anyhow, the kicker, they said repairs would run $685, plus tax. The TV new 4 years ago was $1500!

9 blinks - tv will not power up! What do I do?

  • Anonymous May 17, 2009

Yes i have the same 9 led blinks and it will not turn on. Is it me or this sound like a common problem for this unit? Can someone post more on this g-board issue? I notice that thier was a few comments about not having to replace the whole board ang getting the parts from MCM Electronics. Someone please list more about this...Thanks Perry J. from St Petersburg Fl.

before you call the repair guy just cut one side of the d6301 diode on the g board. it's free and it works.

Don't replace the entire G board! that is expensive! The diodes are available from MCM electronics and can be easily replaced.

Find the d6301 diode on your g board. it's about about 1/3 of the way up the right side tiny red and brown diode. labeled d6301.
easier if you remove the board but can be done in place . just cut one side of the d6301 diode.
i did and my tv works fine.
it's worth a try.

There is a problem whit this g board, one diode D6116 is a surface mount sometimes you can resolder these two but will work just temporarily it is recommended to install new ones, are u talking about the connector pluged to the antenna? this is usually hard to pluck from the G board you should try to disconect from the antenna instead, Don't break it cause these boards are discontinued from sony. Good luck.

I got one from a friend that he gave to me.
Only problem is he tried to replace them, Because once i looked at the board the diode on the top (componet side) was replaces with a 1n4001, and the one on the bottom side was gone.... and the traces are loose rom the board, and the transistor that it runs across had black tent on the legs, so i guess he tried to put a 1n4001 there also, not positive just a good guess. I think ill have to buy a g board because i don't think that i can buy the resistor and transistor and then not get them mounted to the board. any thoughts?

Sony kp-51ws520 when turned on just has standby light flashing . the rest is all dead, no picture or voice.

Standby flashing light shows that tv got some internal problem. How many times standby light is flashing is info that provide info about what section of tv got problem.
Count standby light blinks and let me know, there would be 3 seconds long pause in blinks so count pause to pause.

When that model Sony shuts down the LED starts blinking as you say but it is telling you something because it blinks a certain number of times and then pauses and repeats the number of blinks. Count the number and then I might be able to help you narrow down where the trouble is.

THE LED ON THE FRONT OF THE SET SHOULD BE BLINKING IN A SERIES OF BLINKS THEN PAUSE AND REPEAT THE SEQUENCE. IN ANY CASE IT NEEDS TO BE SERVICED BY A SONY AUTHORIZED SERVICER.

count the flashes again carefully, as that model should only blink a maximum of 9 times, unless your getting two seperate codes. Try counting and trying to notice if it pauses a second before blinking again. then let me know what you discover.
