I get a E on the third button down from the top. I assume that means there is an error.
-there is a possibility that the positioning tape inside the printer may be dirty. it's a clear little plastic tape that runs along the printing head that tells the printer where its head is. It has to be CLEAN. you may use 40% rubbing alcohol and a tissue or some q-tips. NOTE before you try this please consult the warranty for the unit.

it says I cant continue because I need approval of the adminstrator. I dont understand.

-if you have vista that is a feature called UAC (User access control) just click on yes or allow, when the device is installing and halted you on a point that the software needs certification, just click on continue anyway.

hope this helps.

Perform a partial reset A partial reset will return user settings to factory defaults. On some models, language and country/region settings are also reset. Perform a partial reset of the product by following the instructions below.

  1. Unplug the power cord from the unit.
  2. Reconnect the power cord into the unit.
  3. When the lights begin to flash, press and hold the On/Resume and Paper Size buttons.
  4. When only the On/Resume light is flashing, release the buttons. When the On/Resume light is steady, the reset is complete.
  5. Try the print job again to see if this step resolved the issue.

---------------------------------
disconnect yer printer from the computer and turn it OFF (check again for anything unusual inside) then (while still DISCONNECTED from the computer) turn it back ON.

If you still have that "E" (which means Error), hardware problem (lots of non-user servicable parts inside & one of them probably died).

check your warranty status, else buy a new one (it will cost you more if you have it serviced)

    -------------------------------------
perform troubleshooting from the printer first since it is the one flashing that error.

by the way, installing the printer software aint gonna help you.

the way that unit is designed : can work on it's own even without a computer (copying). you don't need a computer to perform a copy function right?

Are you running Windows Vista? if you're running vista you need to right click the inatalltion software then Run as Administrator, but if not make sure that you're account is a Admin account that can also be the reason why you're receiving that error because the printer is still not configured properly..

Hope that helps.............

Won't switch off

Having taken the printer apart to check all connections, etc, I put it all back together but the problem persisted. I eventually solved it by holding down the On/Resume button and then plugging in the power lead. The printer started, I was able to shut it down normally, remove the power lead, then start it up again in the usual way ie. without having to hold down the On/Resume button before plugging in the power lead. I can only assume that some sort of "glitch" occurred when it was originally turned off.

Alignment page prints every time printer is turned on. HP1315 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

Printer prints a test page every time it is turned on.

Hi everyone

After replacing the print cartridges 2 steps need to be done:

1. Wait for the test page to be printed out and

2. Put a page over the scanner glass and press scan button on your

printer.

Turn off the printer and turn it on again to see if the problem was

solved.

Hp 1350 printer will not scan.

You need sofrware that captures the scan from the scanner. usually comes with the printer, you have to opemn the program and tell it to scan and save.

Scanning by just placing a paper on the scanner and pressing the scan button just tells the printer to scan and probably print a copy, but it doesnt send it to the computer unless theres a program asking for it. Check the installation cd and go through the software that came with it.
