Standard USB cable, with 1 Type A end and 1 Type B end.

Here's a picture of one.

    Right.

You have 2 connection to the printer, the power, and the printer cable.

Most newer printers use the USB between the computer to the printer.

Or is there something else you are referring to?

  • Coss Aug 18, 2008

If that's the install CD that came with the printer, I don't see why it wouldn't.

Just connect the printer to the computer, plug the printer in (don't turn it on yet).

    Run the CD install.

During the install it should tell you when to turn the printer on.

Never heard of such a disk, and I've been doing this kind of work for almost 20 years.

    Here's the best way.

Go to the Lexmark site, and download the drivers.

    Here's the link

    http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downlo...

Once it's downloaded, go to the folder you downloaded it to, and extract the files (double click it)

Go into the printer section on your computer, and double click "Add Printer"

(Yes, you do want to have the printer on while you are doing this)

Go through the wizard, and when it asks for what kind of printer, choose "Have Disk", and point it at the folder you extracted the files in (it will tell you where it is extracting to after you double click the downloaded file).

And finsih up with the wizard.

Should only take a couple of minutes.

The port to which the printer is connected is not supported. Check the port

I'm assuming you are using a USB connection, not a Ethernet connection.

Try a different USB port (preferably in the REAR of the computer, not the front). It's not unusual to have 1 or 2 poorly-performing (low power) ports on a PC; some printers don't like those.

If you have a really old computer, it may have ancient USB type "1" (slow) ports instead of the newer 2.0 or 3.0 USB type. Some printers don't like old USB 1 ports, but it is not supposed to matter.

If all else fails, try another USB cord, or a shorter one. Some printers don't work well with cords longer than 4 feet, and USB cords can go bad.

Or, try the printer on another computer. If the same USB cord works fine there, YOUR computer has the problem (probably a USB port or USB driver issue).

Are you having issues with other USB devices? If so, it may be a Windows driver issue.

Good luck. If no help, post your exact printer model # here, or try contacting Lexmark.com support

I need to know what cords do I need to hook up my printer to my laptop, I can't get the power light to come on

Probably a USB cord. I believe this printer has a separate power supply.

Printers do not normally come with the USB. The good news is you can buy this cord just about anywhere. You should know, there is a special USB cord for printers - one end is smaller than the other end - the smaller end goes into the printer.

I hope this information helps you.

Lexmark x5340 printer "can't communicate with computer." All hardware okay. Just bought new USB cord since printers don't come with them anymore. Have older computer 2001 Gateway, however was wondering if...

I had a brand new usb cord that didn't work but cost a lot of money. I went to wal-mart and bought a usb cord for like $6 that had a printer icon on the package and hooked that up and the message disappeared. I don't know if that helps but hope it does.

You'll likely need a power cord and a usb cable. Specs say a standard usb to usb will work. Don't know if the power cable is proprietary... check and see if a spare monitor/computer cable will work. If not, it's probably about as expensive to go buy another cheapo replacement.

Need cord to connect printer to comuter for Lexmark Z11 printer

You likely need a USB cable with an 'A' connection on one end and a 'B' connection on the other end. They can be found at stores like Best Buy, Office Max, Staples etc. If the computer you are trying to connect the printer to doesn't have any USB ports, then you will have to add a USB card in one of your computer's expansion slots to allow the printer to work.
