Question about Toshiba 57HDX82 57" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Toshiba convergence Thanks for replying to my FixYa post. I've added my results to that post, but I wanted to let you know that I have a picture showing the set's convergence problem, if that is useful. Send an email to mhomiller (at) hotmail (dot) com if you want me to send the picture. thanks, Matt

Thanks for your help - I'll probably consider this as a last resort. I've read that others have replaced with -180s without problems. Plus, the fact that the set is unchanged makes me wonder if my -110s were bad in the first place (and no fuses were blown and resistors are ok).

    thanks again!

    I found the datasheets here:
    http://www.electronica-usa.com/Merchant2...

The -110 and -180 are identical. I even compared the typical application circuit and test circuit.

I have a scope now. I'm looking at the schematics to see what points might be interesting to probe...

I was looking through the voltage readings and they are almost identical as the schematic diagram.
The STK392-180 that you used instead the OEM ones, might have a different horizontal frequency affecting the convergence alignment and there should more more changes made to the circuit to accommodate the higher wattage STK IC.
I would suggest to use the STK392-110 as design by the manufacturers and see if that works.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hello, asnowman here.
I had to reply to this post, as the other would not let me.

Your question:
Comment posted on Oct 26, 2009 Thank you for your help, do you know what board this is on? signal, main, or power? Your televsion is the 73411, and I think that your convergence IC's are on the center board, (called the power board, even though it doesn't have the flyback on it), if they are not they are on the signal board. You can't miss them they are attached to a very large aluminum heat sink and the IC's are very large as well. I hope that this answers your questions. If you need further assistance please comment to this post and I will try to help you further.
Thanks for using FixYa

Where can I find instructions on changing lamps? I am assuming that is the problem since I have yellow or blue outlines around test and outlines of bodies.

If you have 3d looking picture and in the customer menu the convergence will not adjust---you have a convergence problem

This model (ws65809) uses two STK-392-570 convergence IC'S---both need to be replaced and the set adjusted----I can tell you what is needed if you want to know---I have repaired hundreds of these sets

Go into customer menu and select convergence--if either blue or red will not move in some direction---convergence problem---You can buy a pair of the chips on Ebay for about 14 dollars plus shipping and if you are able to do the repair yourself--you can save a lot of money.

I have instructions for this repair but I am not allowed to post MY email address here.

Let me know if I can help you--if you have questions or want options reply to this posting.

Hey can any one help me with my Toshiba 46H83 rear projection hdtv? My screen is off center by about 3/4 of an inch to the right. The picture is prefect except for this. I've asked this question two times...

OK, need to go to service menu of TV and adjust HPOS data, you can move entire picture left to right or right to left to adjust it on TV screen.
Be careful NOT to initialize service data memory otherwise all convergence will be a mess.
How to go into Service Mode is written in service manual of TV.
Thanks.

Toshiba has to "warm up" for proper convergence

Will, sounds to me like the IC`s need to be re-soldered, probably got 1-3 joints broke, most times I`ve found that re-soldering them DOES NOT work, but yours "heals" itself so it may be all you need to do, I`d try that first and see if it holds up, if not then get the IC`s replaced and you`ve got a good set, questions? e-mail me back, good luck, BMW Rider
