Question about Lite On Laars Lite 2 Heaters: 250,000BTU MV Heater

7 Answers

Heater either won't light or goes out after running 5 to 10 minutes

I have a laars lite 2 model LD175N heater which has the electronic ignition rather than pilot light model. I try and start it numerous times and it won't start and you come back 20 min later and it may start right up. If you do get it running it only runs for say 5 to 15 minutes and then shuts off and then it won't restart again?

I already unplugged it and check to see that all the wires were on the terminal correctly and tight. So this should not solve the problem.

I looked a the parts breakdown and I'm I don't see anything listed as "ignition coil assembly". I see ignition control assemble-LD and ignition control-LD, transformer and ignition control panel

  • space7 Aug 18, 2008

I certainly would like to check the contacts on the device end that you mention. All I need is their location in the unit.

  • space7 Aug 18, 2008

What is this gaskets need replacing. I am getting confused at checking contacts and now replacing gaskets? Need more specific information regarding parts and location in the heater.

The last response I got was regarding a BTU 250,000 unit so where did that come from. I stated in my initial correspondence that I had a 175,000 btu LD unit?

  • space7 Aug 18, 2008

I am going back outside and will blow out the burners, look over the ignitor section and check all the electrical connections again. One last thought I had was the problem seemed to start several weeks ago about the same time the copper tube buy the siphon loop split open letting the water out. I soldered the tubing and it doesn't leak and I disconnected the pressure switch and the water flows out the tubing in a very strong stream so I didn't think that had anything to do with it?

  • space7 Aug 18, 2008

I have the installation and operations manual from when I installed the heater 4 years ago. It has the exploded view of all the parts and a list of Part numbers for ordering the parts. Also inside the cabinet and on the cabinet door there are appropriate wiring diagrams for the electronics so I'm good to go that way.

  • space7 Aug 19, 2008

I don't believe the information I received helped and at times it appeared that whoever answered me didn't even understand what product model I had. I felt like different people were just shouting out random suggestions rather then fact IE: there are three items that could cause your type of problem and it should be either 1. blah blah blah or 2. blah blah blah or no.3. blah blah blah which I didn't get and I feel this effort was a waste of $10.

The ignition coils should be near or within the "High Voltage Lead Assembly" it will depend on how the BTU-250,000 was assembled, but it should be in that area, please check.

Hi,
The problem you are referring to could be beacuse of the ignition coil assembly a physical look at the equipment is needed to pin point the problem. As given by the description the best guess is the ignition coil assembly.
Following is the link for the part and replacement cost involved

I have a Teledyne Laars Lite pool heater Model LLD 250N. When I turn the heater on it will run for 10 minutes and turn off. If I turn the power switch off and right back on it will run agin for 10 minutes...

It sounds like your pool heater might have a defective controller (the part, not you). Check the controller and replace if necessary. It could also be that you need to cycle the ignition sequence until the air is out of the gas line. It could also possibly be that your gas valve needs to be replaced.

Pool Heater Light main burner then goes out

take millivolt reads while main burner is on.i suspect you will see a drop in voltage until you get to point where it will no longer operate burner(around 200mv).if this is the case you probably have poor pilot characteristics due to dirty pilot, pilot out of adjustment ,obstruction or insufficient gas pressure

Laars lite 2 Spark egnighter will not spark

turn power off first. I would disconnect igniter wire which will be a thick orange wire that comes off of ignition module if it is spark. once you have that the end will look like a spark plug wire take shield away from metal then hold orange wire in hand close but not touching metal turn power on and it will take a couple of minutes before it should start sparking. If you don't see a spark then it is most likely the ignition module. There should be a red light on ignition module that will blink to tell you what the failure is if is is a newer on. When you turn power on to laars light 2 the inducer motor should come on then a pressure switch should send 24volt to gas valve for pilot to lite. Can you smell gas at all when laars should be igniting. If you have any questions fell free to email me back
