Go to control panel/ sounds,speech,and audio devices/ sounds & audio devices/ click on the audio tab/ on default device; drop down box make sure if your using the system default sound device or if your own sound card that the correct one is choosen.Under MIDI if using default sound it can say Microsoft GS Waetable SW Synth. Make sure volumes are not muted. A good way to test your system sound device is to (staying on sounds and audio device properties box) go over to the "sounds" tab/ under sound scheme:/ drop down box pick "Windows Default"/ go down to "Progam events"/ click on any sound. Under that box you will see "Sounds". On the left of browse or under sounds somewhere you will see a small box with an arrow in it pointing left. This arrow has to be dark, not greyed out. If greyed out then you won't have sound, due either mostly to wrong sound driver or bad sound card.You may have to plug your own speakers into the system sound device plug. They will still use these settings. If still no sound go over to the "Hardware" tab at the end. Start only on the sound, video and game controllers. Click the first one and under that box will be "Device Properties". It will tell you the status of that device/driver. It also has a troubleshooting option and the properties option boxes where you will be able to change the drivers. Every sound problem I've ever come across has to do with not having the "Realtek AC'97 Audio driver. You can download this from the site. If you don't see it in the hardware tab try downloading and installing that one.....

Multimedia audio controller driver will not install It loads the realtek driver then restarts the pc

You're P5PE-VM motherboard does use Realtek AC'97 driver. (ADI AD1888JCPZ). Preform a clean install. Download, install and run the free program ccleaner. Once installed click on the registry icon within ccleaner and run it. Than restart you're system and enter the bios. Make sure AC'97 is to [Auto] See page 2-20 in you're manual.
Save and exit the bios. Use the Asus CD and install the sound drivers. Or download the latest drivers from Asus;

Good luck!

Asus p5pe-vm series motherboard driver wont work with windows 7

Windows 7 is still in the beta/testing stage from what I remember.

If you go to this page courtesy of ASUS:

In the search box type in your motherboard p5pe-vm and click on P5PE-VM related files for download

It will come up with a seperate window that will ask you the OS that your installing and windows 7 is not an option which tells me that drivers aren't available for your motherboard just yet, it may down the line once windows 7 becomes publicly available.

P5PE-VM asus board audio driver

Hello there.

Please click here to download the drivers for your audio chipset. You may note that Vista is not listed but the driver version for Windows XP works in Vista, there was a problem with the installer cd on Vista but apparently manually running the installer for the audio card, from the cd works fine. Click here to see what other users of the same motherboard said.

Hope this helps.
