Question about Microwave Ovens

Microwave Heating Handle more than Contents

Our Kenmore 1984 vintage micro-convection has had an intermittent problem for a long time. Using the same ceramic mugs everyday to reheat yesterday's coffee, occasionally the handle gets very hot and the liquid not as hot as usual. Same mugs, same liquids, same settings (no, convection not selected), different results. It's gone for months without the problem, then today twice in a row. Performance has otherwise been consistently flawless. Any idea what could cause this?

So why would the performance alternate between normal, then hot pottery, then normal, then hot pottery? 99% of the time it works fine but 1% the pottery heats disproportionately to the liquid. It's not a progressive change -- one day the handle and pottery is hot, then the next day it's back to normal for a few months.

The stirrer's visible and easy enough to check. Any way to check the magnetron?

This is because the mugs are not really microwave safe.

For a while they will work, but over time, some non-safe materials' characteristics can change with repeated heating.

Eventually someone will get a burn, and/or a mug will mildly explode into a few pieces.

I have personal and professional experience with this! *grin*

Small amount of white smoke coming out of kenmore convection microwave in oven mode

That is usually caused by a build up of fat from microwave cooking on the heating element. It will clear under normal conditions and return if one cooks foods like bacon etc, un covered to prevent splashing of the food that is being cooked.
Hope that helps.

Kenmore Elite micro/convect model 64289. Convect not heating...F1 error

F 11 code. it is a touch pad error.
if you just cleaned the control panel it may have water in the panel causing a key to stick.
If after a day or 2 it hasn't dried out - then you will need to replace the touch pad.

Visit www.searspartsdirect.com and enter in your full model number for a parts breakdown and schematics.
