Go to your computer manufacturers website and search for an updated firmware version for your drive or simply replace it

Sounds like there is problem with the hard dive file structure, or OS image.

Your hard drive is missing from the system. Or, just does not recognize it. The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB... Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Check BIOS by pressing an F key during boot. Look on the screen for correct Function key. Might be F2 key. Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

Restoring to Factory Settings


A very common issue with most people is what to do when your computer crashes and will no longer boot up. I wish to start by saying save any discs or software that came with your machine it is imperative that keeping these discs will assist you in the future in case this issues do arrive. Second prepare you computer with doing a system backup. So that you have any valuable information on a disc or USB device or any external method outside of your computers hard drive. What I do "TIP" I have a backup drive on my computer. Any and all pictures, movies, special files are stored on my backup drive and not my C:\Drive. All software files downloads anything that I can retrieve to reinstall due to a C: drive crash can be brought over from my backup drive in an instant. This is the easiest way to keep your files safe. Investing in one is cheap and easy to install. Even if it is a external drive it is well worth the investment. <br /> The BIOS is your main source of access. You can set time you can set boot order you can boot up from your BIOS learn how to get into your BIOS most new users do not even know you can do this. This is the main resource for restoring software and doing a recovery process on some computers. The issues that arise are lost passwords and usernames as well as boot orders being set to Hard Drive Booting First when the default setting on computers these days are boot from CD or DVD. So if you cannot boot from your recovery disc this is the main problem this is where you will have to learn how to set the boot order if it is not defaulted to CD or DVD as the first boot. If this is set you can boot from any CD or DVD disc to install an Operating System back on to your machine. Usually F2 or the delete key will get you into your BIOS. If all is lost set the BIOS setting to default settings hit esc then save. This will set your BIOS to default settings. <br /> Recovery DVD or CD's can be purchased from you manufacturer or offered in a downloadable file when you purchase your computer. It is a good idea to purchase your software legally. So that you have the right keys and you own it otherwise you will run into issues with "WGA" Windows Genuine Activation. It can be a pain to pass even for those that own their software. People do hack cracks that bypass WGA Microsoft is constantly working diligently to catch people that are pirating and taking the software illegally. So to avoid this problem purchase a legal copy of Windows. <br /> Use manufacturers DVD or recovery discs only on your computer if you are not familiar with installing a new software Operating System on a computer. "WHY" drivers and other computer devices may not update and a you have seen with some of the questions. Drivers are always needed. With a factory boot recovery disc for your computer drivers come with the software. So it makes installing and recovering much easier to deal with. <br /> In closing there is not much to doing a recovery on a crashed machine. Insert the recovery CD or DVD and boot from DVD or CD as the first boot and away you go that is about it. You can also perform a repair it is one of the options included with the install. My computer recognizes the external drive but denies me access to it


There are a couple of different things we could try BUT the safest and smartest way to access it is with a Live Linux boot up disc like Ubuntu.

It's free, just download a copy, burn the ISO, boot to it, and then try to access the external drive.

Copy all the important stuff off the drive, format the external, and then copy everything back. Don't delete your files until you know for sure the drive is working correctly.

PC does not recognize disc drive or Roxio software. Disc drive only works when booting


Hello there:
It is common for a computer to begin recognize the drive during boot and then fail shortly after this.
This is normally the first sign of the the device beginning to fail.
What you can try to do is to allow the computer to fully boot then go to the my computer and select properties then select device manager , now look thru the list and find the cd rom devices and highlight it than open it up and you will see your cd rom now highlight it and right click it and select remove the device and select next or ok.
now it wil confirm the removal of the device select yes once it has removed the device restart the computer and it will reinstall the drivers for the device after the system has fully started up now if it still does not work you will need to replace the cd rom ok?

External USB driven hard disc not recognized Windows XP-


Once the device has installed all drivers open "My Computer" and see if it even shows the drive. If the hard drive came with any installation software install it before attaching the drive. Make sure all cables are attached including the power cable if it came with one. One main thing to also check is that the drive is directly in a port by itself and not on a hub with other items. The only other problem may be that is the drive is too large (1TB) to be recognized and then you can google a patch that will allow it to be recognized. If none of this works the last option would be to allow your pc to format the drive and see if that helps.

Driver needed for TSST Corp CDDVDW TS-H653N SCSI CdRom Device please. DVD drive shown in My Computer, and MS says I have the correct driver for this device. But, it doesn't work.


If the computer still cannot read a disc, there may be a problem with the drive. Go to method 3 to troubleshoot the CD or DVD drive. If the computer can read the other disc, there is a problem with original CD or DVD. Contact the manufacturer of the damaged disc to obtain a replacement. Method 3: Try a different disc drive If the disc is clean and undamaged, check whether there is a problem with the drive. To do this, follow these steps: If the computer has more than one disc drive, insert the disc in a different CD or DVD drive to see whether it can read the disc. If your computer does not have more than one disc drive, you can insert the disc in a different computer. If the other CD or DVD drive can read the disc, there may be a problem with your CD or DVD drive. Go to method 5. If the other CD or DVD drive cannot read the disc, the disc may not be compatible with the drive. Go to method 4. Method 4: Make sure that the disc is compatible with the drive Check the following list to make sure that the disc that you are trying to use is compatible with your CD or DVD drive. Will not recognize a blank cd or dvd inserted into the e drive. will read a data disc inserted into the same drive.

Are you using windows media player or roxio or any burning software?
You will need burning software for blank disc to be recognized.

Dell DV051 - message no boot device


Go into your BIOS by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is being recognized in there. If it is then reset defaults in the BIOS and reboot and see if the computer will boot back into windows. If it doesn't then you'll need the discs to restore the computer back to factory defaults. If the hard drive is not being recognized in the BIOS then make sure the hard drive is hooked up properly. IF it is and its still not being recognized in the BIOS then the hard drive is bad.

At that point then you'll need to replace the hard drive and use your discs to restore the computer back to factory defaults.

Turn on computer; health screen appears, says boot from disc, stp


I know the didn't include the XP cd with the computer, but they should have provided a system restore disk for you. That is the CD you need to boot and restore your system with. With no restore disk you will need obtain a new copy of XP, and use that to boot from and install a new copy. If you decide that's what you need to do, you should delete all partitions on the hard drive and then format it all as one partition. That way you will have more space on your hard drive.

Hal.dll missing or corrupt.


I would recommend you buy a copy of Quick Boot ($9.99 at ebay shipping included), and use it to first to run a diagnostic on your drive since this is a quick and easy test, then use it to wipe the drive, then use it to reformat your drive, then reinstall your OS. If all this doesn't work, then it may be that you have a boot sector virus, which can render just about any system dead in the water. Good luck.
