Question about Oster 76076-010 Hair Trimmer

1 Answer

The clippers started running intermittently and then stopped running. I opened the housing and nothing seemed burned out and the switch still makes a clicking sound when I turn it on and off, but the clippers don't run.

Sometimes if your blades dry out the clipper will turn on, but won't clip. try oiling you blades and then turn it on.

Are my clippers still functionable if they got too hot and shut off on their own?

Hi, if you are just using the shaver about as long as you have done before, then i would say there is a fault in the small electric motor. Sometimes if you have them running for a longer period then a cut off switch will cut in as they will get to hot and its to stop them burning out.

I took off the end cap of my single speed A5 to clean out the dog hair and now they will not run. Before I took the end cap of and cleaned out the hair, the clippers would run intermitenly. Sometimes...

Chances are if you could wiggle the cord and get your clippers to start again there is a short in your power cord. However there is a list of other things to check:
  1. Within the cap are two brass tabs which sit across from conjugate tabs within the main housing. These are designed to contact each other when the cap is secured. If there is any question whether they are in contact, you can exaggerate the bend slightly to ensure that they are.
  2. Check your carbon brushes to make sure they are not worn down. The brushes are directional so make sure the concave surface direction matches that of the housing and thus the armature contained within.
  3. Lastly, check your toggle switch. Gently, tug on each end of the switch's wires to make sure they are secured to both the housing and the switch. These wires can become broken and appear to be attached to the switch when they are not. The number one cause is a loose or missing switch nut, especially since Oster has switched from metal to plastic on the nut.
Hope this helps.

My Golden A5 clippers won't shave a knowlegable dog groomer friend of mine said the blade seems sprung from the housing it doesn't fit snug against the body of the clipper is there an adjustment I can...

it seem the hinge on your clipper is worn out, here how you can check it, place blade on with the clipper off tap the blade forward if the blade pop,s open the hinge is worn out, you need to replace it, Now on the cutting part of the blade when was the last time you had your blade sharpen. if it been a while or you can not remember it's time to have it sharpen by a professional.

I ohmed out the armature on my AGC clippers. There is an open between two adjacent pads, is the armature bad?

Before you test make sure your clipper is DISCONNECTED from the wall outlet. before testingYour Andis Master clipper , I would check the electrical cord for continuity, 2 check your switch for continuity, and last your magnetic coil for open field.

Proffesional Oster clippers model 274-69 seems to be frozen...

First, these are very sensitive to no lubrication. They should be lubricated every use to every few uses. Put a drop or two of light machine oil (sewing machine oil is about right) directly on the cutting blades. That may fix your problem. Also, watch the blades once you getit running and make sure the teeth totally pass each other or it will pull hair -- no fun! The travel of the moving blade is generally adjustable via a large plastic screw on the side of the clipper.

Loud buzzing on Wahl "Designer" model clippers

There is a "power screw" located on the side of the clipper opposite the switch. This may need adjusting. Take a screw driver or coin....and with the unit running......turn the screw back and forth until the clipper stops making noise. The proper position for the most power is to turn the screw intil it makes a loud noise, then turn it back just enough to get rid of it.

remove the gearbox cover (nameplate) make sur the worm gear from the armature is spinning when switched on, if not turn off there is an internal problem. if it does move then check the condition of the gear it may have some teeth missing.
