My cpu got a power surge during a lighting storm an burned up my power suplie ive replaced it an now the power light will come on when i push the power button on and the fan on the mother board works but...

In addition to your power supply, your motherboard was also probably affected by the surge. Most surges do damage beyond the motherboard. The power supply is still supplying power to it, which is why the fan runs and power lights come on, but it probably isn't doing much more then that. You might want to start looking for a motherboard replacement. The best and most inexpensive place is www.tigerdirect.com.

I just received 2 memory cards for my Dell notebook and I need to install them.

The bottom of your laptop should look something like this:
fd1c58c.jpg
You want to unscrew the compartment that has the memory inside of it. Should have 2 small screws.....

Next you want to remove the exsisting memory by lifting up on the module and sliding it out....then insert the new memory , and push it back down, as shown in this picture:

When you reboot your system for the first time , it should stop before it boot's to tell you that the system's memory has changed.

Hi - What's the model # of your card? I can give you the exact location of where to get if you give me the model # or you can go to the link below, choose networking in the first box, wireless in the second box and choose your model in the third box. Then scroll down to find what your looking for. Like I said, if you'd like I can do it for you with the model #, your choice. If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If you need more help just add a comment and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.

We purchased a surge bar about 4 years ago to protect the computer. The model number is SP8200T2 but last night it did NOT protect the computer, yet the surge bar still seems to be working. Your phone...

I could not find mfr on web, lots of places selling, but no hint of mfr. if you want reliable protection, get one from TripLite, APC or Belkin, most of the better brands will pay for your computer if surge destroys it.

Sony Vaio VGC-RB576 motherboard fried

if you have problems with outages and surges, then the only way to protect electrical goods is by purchasing a surge protection socket extension. But you should check that your power options in control panel are set that on the shutdown drop down list the pc lists shut down and does not say restart. Also go into bios F2 or Del on boot up and look and see if time and date are correct, if not then the cmos battery needs changing (Cr2032 disc chaped on motheroard) then in advanced cmos settings, then look for 'ACPI', make sure this is enabled so as to support windows shutdown settings, then save settings and exit for a reboot.
