Presser foot goes up when sewing and down when stopped. Control buttons move foot up and down and mid positions, but not as expected according to button labels. Screen displays "Presser foot too high"

OK will try that, thank you.

  • jbreid Jun 07, 2011

OK I tried all the possible settings of foot pressure and the machine is still acting the same way:
The "up" button makes the foot go down.
The "down" button makes the foot go up.
The "middle" button makes the foot go to various places: middle, middle high, middle low, hop up and then back down, stay down.

Here is the display error message

If it would help, I also have a quicktime video of the strange behavior, is there an email where I could send it?
The machine is a Viking Quilt Designer II by the way -- I'm sorry about the thread title, there was something unexpected going on in the web site when the "Viking 1" got attached, and I don't know how to correct it.

Thank you. How can I find a competent tech in the Los Angeles area?

  • jbreid Jun 08, 2011

...or that I could ship the machine to.

Helpmech really stuck with me through a number of followup questions. We managed to trace the problem to a failure in either the presser foot or the control board.

Try turning the presser foot pressure to a higher number. Ususally it at 4-5.
There is a presser foot pressure dial on the left end of the machine, make sure it is on 3 or higher.---------- try this and check.this should help.thanks.Helpmech.

In that case there are two possibilities, one the presser foot itself and other the control board. The presser foot is controlled by the control board. As per the comment you mentioned the presser foot is functioning but its not functioning right, so it indicates towards faulty control board. Its not controlling the pressure foot right. The presser foot has to be inspected by tech, before going for control board.

The pressure foot on my bernina bernette 715 won't move

Troubleshoot this. Here are some steps you can take:

Safety Setting Adjustment:
In newer firmware versions (V9.xx), a safety sewing setting was added to prevent the ruler foot from hitting the needle holder when the foot is hovering and the needle is down.
If your presser foot only raises slightly (about 2mm), it might be due to this safety setting.

To resolve this, change the setting from the maximum of 2mm to a maximum of 6mm.
Remember to switch it back to the original setting when using the ruler foot.

Check the Needle Position:
Ensure that the needle is in the highest position (raised) before attempting to move the presser foot.
If the needle is down, the presser foot may not move freely.

Inspect for Obstructions:
Examine the area around the presser foot for any obstructions, tangled threads, or debris.
Make sure there's nothing preventing the presser foot from moving smoothly.

Presser Foot Pressure Adjustment:
Uneven fabric feed can occur if the pressure on the presser foot is too high or too low.
Adjust the presser foot pressure according to the thickness of the fabric you're working with.

Power Cycle and Reconnect:
Turn off the machine and disconnect it from the power source.
Reconnect it and power it back on.

Refer to the Manual:
Consult your Bernina Bernette 715 user manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to the presser foot. If these steps don't resolve the problem, you may have to take it to a professional repair service.

I have an ACE joys homemaker computerized pf7001 sewing machine, bobbin flashes, presser foot leaver is green on up and red when down, no sew, no manual info, hand wheel noisy when turned.

Hello Mary. The bobbin winder on the top is what's making the presser foot switch to go green when in the up position move the bobbin winder to its stop position and the presser foot switch will reset. Buy a manual online £4.99.

When I put the presser foot down and begin to stitch, the needle just keeps sewing in the same place, and the presser foot won't allow me to easily move the fabric.

You might want to see if the drop feed control is down. There's a switch (for my Singer machine, you have to take off the removable sewing table/storage, and the switch is behind the machine)...if the drop feed is down, you can't see the "teeth" as I call them which grips the fabric.

Another idea is to back stitch (reverse sewing lever) a couple stitches and then try sewing.

Make sure the foot speed control is hooked up correctly. https://wiki.artisansasylum.com/images/0/0f/Sewing_Machine_--_Singer_3116_--_Manual.pdf This is the manual for your sewing machine model you posted. Good luck.

Cant get machine to embroider

there are three positions the presser foot can sit in. Up and down are the same on any machine. The 7570 has an in-between position for embroidery. Lift the presser foot and the lower it slowly while pushing gently. It should stop about half way down. The embroidery foot pushes the foot into the down position with each stitch allowing the fabric to move easily to the next stitch.

My machine makes a "knocking" sound.

Needle bar probably catch the presser foot, because it does not return the the right position. Clean and oil the presser foot assembly. There is no tension adjustment there. It should move freely about 1 cm.

I can't start to sew on my 830. The foot control is recognized(the start/stop button light goes off when I press the foot control), but does not make the presser foot come down. It worked 15 minutes ago...

If you lower the pressure foot before you press the foot control does it sew then? If so, then some how in your setting menu you auto pressure foot setting has gotten turned off.

Singer Simple `when not threaded runs forward and backwards,,,, `when threaded,,,,moves forward for an inch,,,and then looping clogs the bobbin area,,,it appears as one inch loops under fabric,,,have...

Try this test, with the presser foot down, pull on the top thread, it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, the thread should barely move, when pulled. This sometimes seats the thread in the tension discs. Hope it helps you.

Viking Designer 1 presser foot will not stay down

The foot should come up slightly above the fabric when in embroidery mode. If not, the fabric could not move.
The foot should come up the same distance that it would if you were to put the foot in the pivot position while sewing. If it is coming up more than that, then you have a problem and will need to see and authorized technician.
