We have no hot water boiler kaput - will washing machine heat water (hot wash) if only cold water is going into inlets.

Yes. The washing machine contains heating element and a thermostat. It will try to get water from both hot and cold sources and will heat the water to the required temp.

Heating eliment or PCB, is this when doing a prewash? or a normal wash excluding pre wash?
if you can manualy pump out and manualy rinse and spin, my guess is heating eliment is broke £20-£30

Hi my wf220 won't do a full cycle the prewash flashes all the time if i put it onto wash it just sticks on wash all the time but will spin if i just set it to rinse n spin or just fast spin could you help...

My guess is heating element, if its broke it wont heat water and because the thermostat does not detect hot water the machine does not move onto next step. i suspect you will not be able to do a prewash.
Part cost ££20 to £30
My machine has same problem but im struggling to pull out the eliment.

using an electrical screw driver, check there is power getting to your heater element,if so then your eliment possibly needs replacing

F-08 error message on Hotpoint Washing machine WT761? The original fault on the machine was that it was tripping out and taking out a resetable fuse in my fuse box a few seconds after turning the machine...

If it works fine with the heater off then i would say that fault appears to be element..the readings you get seem okay, put you meter onto megs and check, with wires off if you get electrical leakage between live and earth...Body....of element, it could be element is heating with no water in machine causing it to burn out..this is a problem with this machine...Wish you well

Free standing kenmore dryer series 90 floor model not stacked not drying

Could be the heating eliment..
A way to check it ---
remove the exaust hose..
Put a mirror to the exaust hole trying to see inside to the eliment(s)..
When running - the eliment should glow hot..
If its not - it migt need to be replaced..

Hope this helps !!
rate me good ;o)

Yes, it is beginning to sound like the thermostat has failed. They usually fail the other way - refusing to heat the water.

A thermostat is a simple little 50p / $1 item if only you can find it, identify it and fit another yourself.

If you have to buy one from a spares dealer, x15 !
If you have to get a repair man to visit, x200 !!

If I were faced with this problem on my machine (being reasonably techy) I would initially disconnect the machine from the power supply, find the thermostat and cut it's wire off in such a way that it could be joined again afterwards (insulating both ends). Most clothes can be washed quite well in cold water.

Hope this helps a bit. Cheers, D.

PS Be prepared for the machine to throw a tantrum or fault code after disconnecting the thermostat - if it won't work at all with the wire cut we'll have to think of a "Plan B"

Won't heat water anymore - only washes in cold water

u need to take the back half panel off once off u will see the two thermostats and the heater element you can test the element by undoing the wires and getting an old wire with plug on 1 end and bear wires on the other place corrisponding wires to were that wire had come of turn plug on and if it is working it will heat up straight away which means the thermostats need replacing if it doesnt then the element needs replacing
