I install my disc and it goes through the process, but does not "Locate Printer". It has worked before in this computer, but after restoring it to factory specs I can't get it to accept the software program. I appreciate any help.

Same problem with Xp and same printer, Cannot add printer in control panel , printers. Can only be installed with original software, Try also uninstalling all printer software plug in and when vista pick up new hardware install software from disk and not auto
I believe this is related to an HP printer installation. You need to identify the process and remove it from the startup. This should be removed when you remove the printer software (Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in Vista). An alternate method would be to use the MS Configuration Utility (Start>Run msconfig or type msconfig in search for Vista) then select the startup tab and locate the program and uncheck the box to the left. If you are no longer using the HP printer or bundled software I'd recommend uninstalling those first as it appears it is trying to install additional components.
In future posts please include your operating system and any specific details you have available.
the software you downloaded will have a folder called ccc you need to follow the steps below and reinstall again for this to work.
disconnect the usb from the printer>
insert the printer cd in the drive>
cancel the autorun that pops up>
Explore the cd from my computer>
locate the folder called ccc>
it will contain files called uninstalll1, uninstalll2,uninstalll3,uninstalll4>
run them all in the same order as above>
this will completely wipe off the hp device from the pc (it will take time each level taking more time then the one bofore it)
once done restart the pc>
reinsert the printer software cd and follow the onscreen instructions to reinstall the printer software again.
if this dose'nt work and u need steps for registry cleanup (usb entries) let me know
You have to go to the HP site and download the Vista drivers for your printer.
Also, this printer is very specific on how to do the install.
#1 turn the printer off, and disconnect the USB cable.
This is a 165MB compressed file, so it's going to take a while to download it.
Once you do, close any programs you have open, go to the folder you downloaded it to, double click to decompress it. Make note of where it is expanding it to (it will tell you in the beginning).
After it is finished decompressing it, the install program should start. If it doesn't, go to the folder it unzipped to, and double click the setup file.
The software will tell you when to connect and power on your printer.
It is also recommended to burn a copy of this downloaded file from HP in case you need it in the future.
