Question about Printers & Copiers

2 Answers

My Canon PIXMA MP600 is showing an error message reading 'does not recognize' when replacing my PGBK 5 black ink cartridge. This is a brand new Canon replacement cartridge purchased thru Best Buy's local store. What is the problem? This is only the second ink replacement that has been done on this printer and the first time there was no problem. J. Moore

    Unable to answer your question as to exact error message since my printer is now disconnected and I don't recall other than it said it did not recognize the cartridge and gave an error message like U1-- {can't recall the other two numbers}

Your solution is a misaligned or defective prinhead replacement. Just where do I go to get that done? Approximate cost? Does Canon ever send replacement defective parts? This is a relatively new machine and doesn't make me a satisfied customer to hear your short solution statement.

The"does not recognize" prompt is caused by a misaligned or defective printhead, your unit does not recognize the installed printhead assembly. So what you can do here is to realign the printhead or replace it..

Hope that helps.........

Yes canon can do a service repair and parts replacement on your printer since its still under warranty, They just need to do some alignment on the printhead but if problem still there they will replace the printhead...

    ok,i got your exact error.It is U150

  • Priya darshan Aug 18, 2008

You will have to replace your ink tank actually. So please contact canon. But there is also 1 home remedy which you can try just unplug all the cords of your printer for 30min and also remove all the ink cartridges. After 30min plug all the cords as well as install the cartridge and see if you still get the error. If you still get the same error then contact canon and get your printer replaced if it is under warranty or get your ink tank replaced.
If you need anymore help let me know.

I have replaced the black ink cartridge PGBK 5 but now it does''t print black still.

Maybe you have not inserted the cartridge in the right slot, or maybe you haven't fitted it in properly. try moving the cartridge around and see if it clicks.

    Hope this helps!

My canon MP600 says that it cannot read my pgbk 5 But its appears to be brand new and still had fresh ink in it. But it says it cannot read.how do i fix this.

I had this same problem too and it's so frustrating because you can't do anything without getting that message. I ended up calling Canon at 1-800-828-4040 and they said it was a bad print head (ink tank) and sent me a free replacement. If you're ordering black be sure and specify which black cartridge because we mistakenly got a yellow one as well. Ours was the same in that it was brand new fresh out of the box from Canon, but they say sometimes they just manufacture bad print heads.

    Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.
