Question about Panasonic DVD & Blu-Ray Players

1 Answer

Problem setting up DVD home theatet sound system sc-pt460 with my vierra panasonic TV. The two appropriately connected with HDMI plus Optical cables. Mainly wish to use it improve TV sound. Have got it working but little and variable sound from rear speakers. Also when trying to adjust the sound settings do not get a visual display of the setting adjustments on my TV screen which the instruction book indicates should happen and is necessary for such adjustments. Have you to set it up with a SCART cable rather than HDMI connecting the TV and sound system? And if so do you keep the Optical cable in while setting up? Since all the equipment is the latest Panasonic I had hoped that seetting it up would be simpler. Have already been at it for 5 hours! Please help

To see the dvd sound menu option you must be on the correct input selection for your tv. ie. if its Scart, then AV1, or if HD then HDMI 1 etc. then you see the options. as for sound being variable, you can adjust the sound for each speaker in this mode. Main thing for having surround sound with normal TV is to turn on the sound enhancement mode. also, on your viera link on the tv remote, make sure sound its selected as home cinema. word of warning, leave dvd on D-In option, and when turning the TV off, use standby mode, which turns both systems off, ensuring the link does not break.

Check the input selector on the TV, if you have audio only then it is a cable problem,
that means that cables are not connected in the right way.

Can i connect dmp-bd871 to a home theater system

It will depend on your home theater system and TV. If your system accepts HDMI in from other devices and HDMI out to the TV, connect an HDMI cable from the blue-ray player to an HDMI input on home theater system. Then connect another HDMI cable between the home theater system and the TV. This will provide the best video and audio experience.

Another option is connect the HDMI cable from the Blue-ray player to the TV. Connect the audio output of the TV to the home theater system. (This will depend on the TV as well as the home theater system. Some TVs have digital audio outputs; others have analog outputs. If your home theater system doesn't have the same input as the TV's output, you would need a converter as well as the digital and analog audio cables. This is an example of one for digital to analog: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4907 .)

If you do not want to get the best picture from the Blue-ray player and your home theater system has analog audio inputs, you can connect the composite video out to the TV. Then connect the audio outputs from the player to your home theater system. (This means only an SD picture will be provided to your TV.)

Panasonic has the manual for the DMP-BD871 here: service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/DMPBD871-MUL.PDF .

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the other devices in your entertainment system or their inputs/outputs. Then I can add specific information for your system and any tips for setting up the system.

I have a sky+ hd box connected to an lg 42LH300 tv through hdmi and an LG HT805SH home cinema through optical cable. Whenever i turn sky over i lose sound and have to turn cinema on/off to sound returns ...

One of the way to connect the whole system is using only HDMI cable version 1.3a. There is audio return channel built into the cable. So you do not have to connect the optic cable.
Sky box to TV using HDMI
LG HT805 to TV using HDMI. Even the Sky box audio will come back to the LG-HT through the audio return path.

My surround sound will not work through the TV, only the DVD

If your tv and surround has an optical input/output.Then you can connect with an optical lead. This will then play the sound from whatever you are watching. You normaly select dig1 or input1 on the surround system.

U73 error code

Panasonic SC-BT200EB Blue Ray Home Cinema system will not work without an expensive (£80) 1.3a HDMI cable. Lesser cables will produce U73 error on the blue ray player and no picture on the TV.
