2.8l v6 in a s10 blazer. no head gasket problems thus far. wondering why my oil pressure gauge fluxuates? minor rpm change while oil pres guage does its thing why?
would the oil pressure sending unit be key or should i start simple? pcv vacume lines have all been replaced due to age!would the oil pressure sending unit be key or should i start simple? pcv vacume lines have all been replaced due to age!

AS A MECHANIC FIRST THING I CHECK IS MY OIL LEVEL THEN I CHECK MY OIL PRESSURE. IF OIL PRESSURE 35 PSI @ 2000 RPM.IF OIL PRESSURE OKAY.YOU HAVE CHANGED OIL FILTER AND DONE A OIL CHANGE.YOU HAVE FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. IF OIL PRESSURE STAY LOW YOU HAVE FAULTY OIL PUMP OR OIL PAN FULL OF SLUDGE STOPPING UP OIL PUMP PICK UP SCREEN. WORN ENGINE BEARINGS WILL CAUSE LOW OIL PRESSURE READINGS.

Oil pressure always changes with rpm. At idle you should have around 10 psi, and it should max out at high rpm around 50 psi or so. You not only can't have as much pressure at idle, but you don't need it either.
COULD BE OIL SENDING UNIT ITSELF OR LOOK FOR LOOSE WIRE CONNECTION ON OIL SENDING UNIT.COULD BE OIL SENDING UNIT ITSELF OR LOOK FOR LOOSE WIRE CONNECTION ON OIL SENDING UNIT.

Mar 28, 2011 - There are so many ways to test for a blown head gasket on your 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L GM van (or mini-van, pick up, SUV) that it can get confusing.

I have a 95 Chevy s10 v6 vortec 2wd that is slightly dripping oil out of agasket ... I'm having same problem 2001 Chevy Blazer 4x4 (not xtreme) not sure if those same bolts are missing on mine.
You could try changeing the fuel pump relay The fuel gauge signal come from the pump and goes through the relay to the gauge and on your vehicle the pump will still work even if the relay is bad it has a back up power system through the oil pressure sending unit . The relay is located inside of the glove box behind a panal its the one on the far left. I also have wiring schematic of the system but would need to fax it . If you want it get back to me with a fax #
you need to have someone with a reader hook up to your jeep and clear the codes. even though you replaced the sensor your computer thinks it is still running on a faulty sensor
Before you spend money on a new gauge. Get an oil pressure testing gauge for $20 , remove the oil pressure sending unit and test the oil pressure. If oil pressure at idle and 3000 rpm's is a-ok via spec's ( big money repair items) then its either the gauge a clogged or defective sending unit or the circuitry. (little money repair items)
You can also have this done at a repair shop.
Most likely it's the oil sending sensor, located beside the oil filter. You can change it, just be sure to have old newspaper or rags laying around the area where you will work, because a little oil will be lost. The part isn't expensive, for mine on a Ford Expedition was around $35 and took 5 minutes to change. Just un-plug the connector going to the sensor, and a larger wrench will be needed, large (7/8, 15/16) somewhere in that range of size.
bout the oil pressure gauge its normal to go up but not to high coz u might overheat, try checking the cylinderhead gasket if there is pressure coming out, replace the gasket if needed
Just to add, hope this helps with sensor location. The spec I saw was 30--80 psi oil pressure at 3000 rpms. In the old days they used to say for generic spec, 10 psi for every 1000 rpms. Always use the proper spec. You might be able to use analog pressure gage to screw in to replace sending unit to double check oil pressure. Just my opinion.
