Re: Internal Battery is dead
If your StreetPilot c3xx is showing low battery, the unit is no longer
receiving external power. Please proceed with the following steps:
Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable.
Check the connections between the unit and the vehicle.
Make sure the vehicle is supplying power to the cigarette lighter
(check the fuse for the cigarette lighter, turn on vehicle's ignition,
try using another accessory in the cigarette lighter).
Try remounting the unit into the cradle.
Also try remounting the unit into the cradle:
Place the front bottom part of the screen into the cradle.
Roll the unit backwards until it snaps into place.
Place your thumb on the bottom of the mount below the screen of the unit.
Place the rest of your fingers on the top of the unit.
Squeeze the unit and the cradle together to make sure it is seated correctly.
If your c3xx is still not receiving external power in the vehicle,
please connect the unit to a computer with the supplied USB cable to
verify that the unit will still charge. If the unit is able to charge
on the computer, the vehicle mount may need to be replaced. If the
unit will not charge on the computer, the unit may need to be
repaired. Please contact Garmin Product Support for repair or

You must open the unit up to get to the battery . The battery should be a 3 volt lithium cell that is soldered directly to the main circuit board . If you are not experienced in electrical - DO NOT ATTEMPT .Take it to someone experienced . If you need assistance call 1-800-701-4008
Disconnect from cigar lighter and connect to the USB port of your computer or any AC adapter over night. By morning the battery will have recharged and be ready for use. This seems to happen with the GPS is left connected to a vehicle's cigar lighter for an extended period of time. You can do this USB / AC adapter recharge procedure as often as needed.
I would say this is not a battery problem. A Nuvi will power up even with the internal battery disconnect (done it many times myself ) when connected to an external power source. Please see this link about Dead Nuvi's. Have you tried pressing the reset button behind the antenna?
It sounds like the battery is dead. Check to see that you are getting 12v at the charge cord. The internal battery is a short life battery(2 hr max) and it will power up and shut off if the battery is dead and not getting charged.
This website sells a replacement battery and I am going to do it myself. I openned up the unit and it looks pretty easy as long as you are somewhat mechanically inclined and have a sodering tool. i'll let you know if it works out when I do it.
