My daughter has a 2008 Malibu and she was trying to figure out where the power steering pump is. She was told by someone that there is no power steering pump like in other cars as hers is electric.
IS this true or does she have a power steering pump that does contain fluid. If so where is it located and what does it look like so I can give her a idea where to look. What I told her so far she cannot find it.
THanks
Mike

Hi, could be power steering pump, some sign of this is hevy steering and check to see if you can hear any wining from the pump when moveing steering from lock to lock, also check level of fluid and condition of fluid first, if it looks old try replacing fluid before pump, hope this was some help.
Maybe it doesn't have one , could have electric power steering . Look under the driver side I/P on the steering column .
Electric Power Steering (EPS) Module (without NVH)
Under the left instrument panel knee bolster, to the left of the steering column
If you see a electric motor attached to the steering column , you have EPS
Are there an light's lit on the instrument your not familiar with ? DO you have regular Malibu or Malibu Classic ?
Also does yours have hydraulic power steering or Electric power steering ? GM had known problems with EPS - electric power steering . Your best bet would be to take it an have it checked out at a qualified repair shop .
Your 06 Malibu has electric assist power steering. There is no reservoir, or pump for that matter. A previous problem of this sort was on the website a couple of weeks ago, and someone had mentioned that there was a recall for this problem. Call your Chevrolet dealer and inquire.
this car doesnt have a power steering pump, this car uses an electric motor to provied power steering, this motor is located under the dash connected to steering column shaft, when replacing the motor the module must also be replaced, here is a diagram to help you locate the motor,
yep same problem with saturn ions pwr steering failure dealer tells u to replace whole steering column when really they didnt make the motor strong enough to handle the load of everyday driving and the typical driver
could be your water pump or your low on power stiring fluid... but if it was your power steering fluid low then it would be come harder for you to steer your car... check both
