Thaurfen the wiz advised me to use device manager to scan for hardware changes, and it worked. I would like to thank him and give him a star rating but I cannot find his posting now. Sorry about that.

The maximum hard drive you can install depends upon the BIOS. You MAY BE able to install a larger hard drive if the BIOS upgrade will allow it. I suggest you go to the Gigagyte WEB site to check on this possibility.

My neighbour has the Seagate FreeAgent Desk 500GB, and in under 2 weeks it started to beep and was not recognized by any Laptop or P.C. if this is the same for you with any FreeAgent Desk series ( not GO series, different procedure for GO products). Hello. I recently installed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate edition. I was initally unable to access my seagate external HDD. I tried to take ownership and played around with the permission settings to no avail...

It may be the USB chipset on the motherboard that needs a new 64bit driver downlod. I used Driver Detective to update my Intell chipset when I upgraded to 7 now all my external drives show up. Try using other USB ports on your computer first to force the computer to reload the driver for the new port.

Cant load xp onto sata HDD

To use XP with a SATA drive you'd need to use the HDD disc software first as XP didn't come with preloaded SATA drivers. This is what is preventing you from installing XP on the drive. Once the driver is loaded you should have no problem. If your new hdd didn't come with a disc then you can download it from the hdd manufacturers website under the support link. Hope this helps.

Gigabyte K8vm800M Motherboard Does Not Recognise Seagate SATA HDD

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE PAST. I REPLACE THE IDE HDD WITH SATA AND AFTER I BOOT IT SAYS NO HARDDISK. IT IS BECAUSE WINDOWS XP HAS NO BUILT IN SATA DRIVER.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IS CHANGE YOUR HARDDISK TO IDE OR INTEGRATE A SATA DRIVER INTO YOUR XP (USE NLITE) OR USE THE FLOPPY DRIVE TO RUN SATA DRIVER ITS INCLUDED IN THE MOBO WHEN BUYING.
