Hdd spins at starting and is connected with ide cable, as master on secondary ide. Bios can see it but windows explorer will not.

  • idast Aug 19, 2008

Thanks but no go. I have tested the cables on another hdd and they were good, and cmos detected the different drives - but windows explorer will not show the Seagate.

Hi,

If the BIOS/CMOS can auto detect the Seagate 250Gb but Windows can not, then it is very possible that the partition of the said HD is lost. It may be necessary to re-partition. If there are important files, you may want to use a file recovery utility before re-partitioning.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Try to right click on any place on your desktop screen, then click New Shortcut and type in F: then try using that drive letter and check if you can access that new hard drive..

Hope that helps.........

Try to go on the cmos and configure the IDE's that inserted. like your hard disk it should shows your dvd player device connected from your computer. if not, check the wires connection to the device like sata or ide and the connection power for the device. hope that helps sir!

Hello, Ive bought a LG RH387H DVD Recorder, works like a charm, only 1 issue, I've bought this beause it's said it supports USB HDD through usb on the front, it DOES recognise my 2 GB MP4 player, but it...

The manual does not specify the usb size max.
I would expect not more than 8 GB to 32 GB max
Also remember fat 32 cannot support large file sizes more than 8gb

Sony dvd recorder as hdd error

try replacing the red sata cable which runs from the HDD under the DVD drive to the main board on the right-hand side. these are a common problem on these models, there cheap and unreliable. you can purchase a better quality cable from a computer store for little money. HDD ERROR is'nt necessery an HDD fault as i found out with my rdr-hx525. if however the HDD is faulty and you buy a replacement, once installed you will need to pair the new HDD with the unit by entering the service mode by unplugging the AC then while holding down open/close and play together then re-insert the AC lead while still holding open/close and play and wait until you see an "S" in the display then let go and the service mode will appear on the tv screen. go to no.9 HDD mode, press enter then go to no.3 Write ID then it will say "execute write ID?" yes and press enter and then it will say "writing HDD serial ID.... OK" once this is done, exit the service mode by keeping your finger on the power button for approx 10secs. your DVD recorder should now recognise the new HDD. if you don't follow this process, you will still have an HDD error message as your DVD recorder will have your old HDD installed and won't recognise your new one. given the amount of time since you posted this fault, you may still have the unit in question in which case i hope this solution is helpful, or for anyone else with the same problem.

I bought a Magnavox 810H 160GB HDD/DVD recorder. It's a decent machine which worked perfectly for a few months, but now I can't get it to record to DVD. The HDD recording and playback functions work fine,...

Try switching it over to DVD . Because you may still have it on HDD when you put the disc in it may be that the unit is still thinking you are on HDD and don't recognise it as a disc just the hard drive

HDD Error

Since my last post, I have rectified the problem.....

1) I opened the unit to find a seagate HDD
2) I downloaded the Seatools in dos format and burned the image on to a cd rom
3)Taking out the HDD from my recorder,I hooked it up to another pc and ran the seatools disk @ bootup.
I tried for 2 hrs to repair the bloody thing ( 160 gb!) so i gave up and tried to erase the full HDD...which worked.
4) on my laptop i navigated to Pioneers site and found my recorder along with instructions and a zip file that contained 2 files.
5)After reading the destructions erm i mean instructions ;) I put the HDD back into the recorder and followed the instructions again..

Crossing my fingers i turned the recorder back on and to my amazement i was able to have more functionality..BUT... it says my HDD name error so I ran the disk again and wallah! all worked XDDDD

Here are the links

http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/content/support/support/update/DVR.html check if your model is there.

http://download.seagate.com/seatools/registration.nsf/desktop?openform Just add your email too download.

I hope you fix yours XD

DVD Burning doesn't work..no Disc in Setup..

Been checking out my m/c and found that there are many -r & -rw discs the m/c does not recognise which gives rise to this problem. However the m/c does recognise VERBATIM discs and I have been able to record and dub to them with no problems.
