when you get that error... usually... it's time to replace the drive... but before you do... if you have xp... go to the control panel... double click on system... hardware... then device manager. now... go to the dvd/cd rom tap... do you see a yellow dot and an exclimation in the middle... then replace the drive. if it has an x through it... right mouse click on the drive with the x... and click on enable... it should start working again... if not... replace the drice.

Cd drive not responding..."D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function." This happens when I click on the CD-R icon in My Computer. Also when dragging and dropping music files into the icon.

reinstall driver.. if same problem... you either have a bad drive or you have a virus... do a virus scan if ok... then you have a bad drive...

D:not accessible,incorrect function

If you've used the Drive before, then one of two things is possible. First, your disk may not be formatted. If you're using Windows XP or Windows Vista, you can format the CD if it's a RW (re-writable) type disk.

If it's not an RW type disk then you must use a software package to burn the pics to the CD. Also, make sure the type and writing speed of the CD is compatible with your system. Some older CD writers won't use the Newer 8X type disks. You'll need the newer type to us that type disk. If you're using older disks with a newer driver, then go purchase new disks and try again.

To make sure the driver itself is working, put in a disk you purchased, which you know is good, and see if your drive can read it. If not, then the drive is bad.

Laptop cd rom problem

the very first thing what u can try is that take the cd drive out of the computer and the put it back in and then try and play the cd or dvd and try with the dfferent cd's or dvd's and still if it doesnt play then what u can do is that delte the upper filter and the lower filter from registry tye regedit on the run box and then open the hkey_local_machine>system>current control set>control>class>4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318....double click on this and then on the right hand side u can see the upper filter and the lower filter just delete that and then restart the computer and it will work and still if it doesnt work then replace the cd/dvd rom

Resource CD and D drive

Try the Resource CD in another computer to see if the CD is bad or your CD drive. Also check to see if the Resource disk is in CD or DVD format. If you need software drivers for your computer, you can also go to Dell’s website and download them. Go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag", (serial number) of the computer. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.
