Question about Epson Stylus Color 1160 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Epson Stylus Color 1160

I have all 3 LEDs flashing and Epson said that the ink overflow reservior was full. The ink overflow reservoir and pump unit were only partially full but I flushed them out and thoroughly dried them anyway.
I have asked Epson how to reset the 'maintenance request' error indicators but they wont tell me.

Hope you can help,
Thank you,
Steve Tompson

Yesterday changed the BLACK cartridge. After printing a few pages, without any problem, noticed that the last page was missing part of the characters. Performed the "head clean" utility, like I did many times before, but the results, when performed the "nozzle pattern", was not satisfactory. I repeatted the "head clean" function and then it just happened, all the LIGHTS start to flash.

Is it worth to repair this machine? Is about 5 years old, never had any problem with it. I like it for the 13x19 format that it allows for printing.

    I will appreciate any help.

Hello Stompson,

You can go here and download this utility. It will allow you to select your printer model so you can reset the maintenace request.

http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html

If in the event this does not work try this 2nd procedure, it normally works with the older Epson models and may work for your model too.
1. turn off the machine for at least 5 minutes and disconnect the interface cable to the computer
2. push and hold down the "ink" button and the "paper" button and turn the printer on.
3. When the "paper" light flashes quickly release both the buttons and then immediately press and hold down the "ink" button only for at least 10 seconds.

This worked perfectly for me. I only wish I had found it in my search several hours ago. Much thanks for your help. Now I need to clean or replace the waste ink pad. Any help there.

Tip

Manual Counter Reset Method

To manually reset the Ink Jet Counter that compels you to clean your waste pads. For the tip on how to clean your ink waste pads go here.

Please Note: In some cases, your printer may be leaking ink so much and so often that not only does your ink pads need cleaning, but you may need to replace the ink reservoir on your printer or you will have a leaking mess on your hands. This is a decision and judgment only you can make. If your printer is leaking quite of lot of ink, you may have to take it to an authorized Epson Repair Shop or Person. Find an authorized location by starting at Epson.com

The solution below is valid for most of the following printer models listed below this solution, some listed may not work, some not listed may also work it varies as this method is listed below is illegal for an authorized Epson Tech to release.

Thanks to the many user boards on the Internet for this solution that I know has worked for people I've helped here on FixYa.

Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. The key is in pressing the buttons exactly at the same time. So if this doesn't work the first time, try again and try again. Most people state they get it eventually.

[thanks to fixyourownprinter.com for the crux of this particular solution]

"Printer Onboard Control Panel Key Sequence"

"Press and hold the paper feed, paper switch and the power switch.

Once the power light and paper light flashes twice and the other lights are flashing release the paper feed and paper switch "and then press the paper feed switch".

The power, paper and ink lights will flash twice. At this point the protection counter has been reset."

Don't give up, if it does not reset the first time. The timing is tricky for some people.

Supported Epson Models that I am aware of, others not listed may work and some listed also may not work, it varies but don't be discouraged to try and try again.

You can also try the software download solution listed in this tip I posted.

Flashing ink cartridge lights, soild paper light

Normal 0 Could have a corrupt driver.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and when the CD software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Epson 1160

before it went to flashing all lights, was there anything that was either done to the unit cleaning, ink install ect.

also I would run through all the cleaning procedures of the unit as well click the below link

http://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/sc1160/sc1160u1/INDEX.HTM

and then goto the Maintenance section of the manual.

was there any grinding noises and other sounds on the last printing?

Ink not empty

You have confused the software in either changing a cartridge when not required or having a chip failure whilst changing multiple cartridges.
Full info on how to get out of this is on my site.

Please go to my website http://www.the-inkstore.co.uk . I have the latest version of SSC Service Utility to download directly onto your computer and instructions on how to use it, what to click on etc etc. Click any of the Epson links if you can't find it, everything you need to know will be there, including printer Firmware resetting which sorts out a multitude of problems.

The 'maintenance required' problem with Epson printers has absolutely nothing to do with which cartridges you are using, it is a built in page counter in your printer firmware, which has a different maximum amount for each Epson model. Don't listen to old wives tales and heresay, we are the experts and it's an Epson scam to cause a lot of people to pay for maintenance or throw their printers away.
I haven't found a model that can't be reset with the latest version of SSC Serve or the manual reset on my site.

For Epson RX500 users there is also a manual reset on my site, as the SSC Serve software won't do it for you.
When using the program & choosing your printer from the list, it may have a weird name with 'x' in the model number, this is because some configurations are for many models in a series. For example, the C46 will be listed as C4x as it is for the C42, C44 & C46 models.

I hope this helps all Epson users to overcome the Epson scam of page counting and locking out until you pay their dealers money for maintenance.

If you like what I've done for Epson users, please show your appreciation by spreading the word and perhaps buying your ink from my site.

Happy trouble free printing
