Wont Start (brand new) Just Beeps!

I got the Singer 7442 Sewing Machine for Christmas and i took it out put it all together did everything it said and then when i go to start sewing and push on the footer it just beeps. Doesnt do ANYTHING! Doesnt move doesnt hum it just goes *beep beep* and i thought it may have been an operator error problem but ive had friends try that sew all the time and my mother as well and we cant get it to do anything. Mind you its brand new and i havent gotten to use it now once because it wont work.

Make sure the bobbin winder is not engaged and thread the machine over ,also check that the buttonhole switch is not down

Try installing a brand new needle. If it still will not pick up the bobbin thread, most likely the machine is out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.

Singer 7442 sewing machine buttonhole feature beeps and will not work
Make sure to lower the buttonhole lever (fig 3). Its going to be on the left side of the needle.

Cannot get bobbin winder to work on my Singer 7442. It will wind a 5 or 6 turns then the machine beeps and thenstops.

Singer 7442 will not sew
Had the same problem as mommyb2 - it was the bobbin spindel was in the wrong position. Push bobbin spindel to the left and it works for sewing.
Have the same problem winding my first bobbin - pushed spindel to the right to engage bobbin fuction and the machine locks up and wont wind the bobbin. Irig did you bring it in for repair? I'm thinking its broke - which **** as mine is a brand new machine

Singer 7442 is Loud!
Check to see that lint or oil has not collected on the hook or needle bar. Always use a good quality sewing machine oil. A damaged needle can also be the cause of a noisy machine - insert a new needle.
