I found many articles referring to changing the timer. I could not find a timer in any of the suggested places. I finally asked Kenmore what a controller was located down by the freezer coils. The lady asked; "you mean the defrost controller?" Though the parts page did not refer to it other than a "controller" I said that sounds like a "fix". The part cost me under $20 and took about five minutes to install after unloading the freezer. 1) unplug the fridge 2)empty the freezer 3) remove the back panel. (I chose to leave it partly in place to avoid having to take apart the power and water lines to the ice maker.) 4) clip the plastic ties and unplug the controller. (the controller may have a button release clip that must be depressed before pulling.) 5) Install the new "defrost" :) controller and secure it with something. 6) Plug the fridge back in. 7) You may need to defrost the unit manually by blowing air over the coils for a few minutes. (a towel might be a good way to collect water inside and below the fridge) 8) While you have the fridge out, use extension hoses to vacuum out the dust behind and under the fridge especially around the hot coils back there. Take the time to remove panels to allow access. A good cleaning will help the unit to function better and save you money:)
