I fixed the problem by restarting my PC, then continually pressing the eject button whilst having the CD player flap open ( use a small paperclip or the like ). I did this before the Windows screen appeared. This method I got from the hp website.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Can't use cd/dvd player - computer doesn't recognize it

try to boot the computer using cd. like you trying to install windows. if it read the cd to get into the windows setup, then cd drive is good.

1st make sure you set the option boot from cd first in the bios.
2nd place a windows setup into the drive.
3rd save and exit the bios.
4th if it ask you to press any key to enter setup then the cd drive is good.

maybe u have a windows problem, try to reinstall windows, that the easy way.

Take a paper clip and unravel it. Insert the paper clip into the small hole located on your CD player. The tray should eject.
