Flick the hold button back and forth a few times, then, making sure that it is unlocked press and hold the menu and middle button together. hold them down until it goes dark and the apple mark comes up. hope this helps?

iDevices (iPod, iPhone, etc) usually can only be managed through iTunes. So the first thing you should do is install iTunes (you can download it off Apple's website).
After installing iTunes and connecting your iPod, you must open My Computer then double click your iPod's icon. Then, click on Tools, Options, and in the View tab check the "Show hidden files and folders" option. You should then see an "iPod_Control" folder. Inside it there'll be a "Music" folder, with all your songs. Just drag them back to your computer.
But remember: you can only manage your iPod's music through iTunes. If you add or change songs on your iPod without using iTunes, these songs won't be recognized.

Press and hold the Menu and Select(center button) buttons until the
Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat
surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button (center
button) is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure
that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click
wheel, and not near the center.
Try resetting it by toggling the hold switch and putting it back in the off position. Then press and hold the center button and the menu button for about 6 seconds until the ipod goes off and the Apple logo appears. After that, it should work like new. Hope this helps.
Generic answer for most devices of this type:
Check in the instruction book if there is a way to do a full re-set. If this is not the solution, remove the battery for a few minutes and then re-install it.
I know that there are some issues with this type of product. You may have to send the iPod back for service. If the unit is out of warranty, it may not be worth to service it.
