Question about Dyson DC04 HEPA Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
The clutch has belts in it which lose elasticity and should be replaced frequently for proper performance. The brush bar also gets hair and debris that works its way into the bearings and main shaft. Check this area thoroughly and clean or replace as necessary.

The sound is just there to tell you that the brushes are not spinning. Awful huh? lol Well, the problem with Dyson is that they are very difficult for the customers to fix themselves. You can try to reposition the brushroll ends, but without a belt lifter, it's pretty hard to do. I suggest calling Dyson directly @ 312 469-5923. Marci

There is a height adjustment on these vacuums and they are set to adjust in the "handle up" position". It will appear that the adjustment is doing nothing when the handle is up, but the setting will take affect when the handle is lowered.
You can check the brush length with a pen or pencil. Turn the machine over so that the brush is visible and run the pen or pencil flat across the bottom plate. Any where the brush is extending outward, your pencil should contact the bristle. If not, then the agitator should be replaced.
Also, check to make sure that the agitator is rotating freely and that the filters and bag are allowing for adequate suction. The machine will only pick up if the air flow is sufficient.

I dont think its a problem with the filters if you have normal suction.
If the DC11 cylinder/ canister vac has an air turbine brush / turbo brush check that the drive belt inside it isn't clogged with dirt. If its a toothed belt ensure that it is properly snapped on as well as the other parts in that floor head tool. There may also be dirt clogged in the turbine wheel which is stopping the brush from moving quickly.

SOURCE: brushes not going round
The brushes on my dyson have stopped going round. I have checked it and they move freely by hand. The belt is intact. What could the problem be? The Hoover is about 10 to 12 years old.
My dyson is a dc04
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
One of the main problems with vacuums are that the flat belts on the vacuums stretch and should be changed every 4 to 6 months or 3 or 4 times a year – you can tell by taking off the belt or belts on the vacuums and compare them to the old belts on the vacuum the new belts will fix inside of the old belts and you will be able to see the difference on how much they have stretched – if the belt is a geared belt – they stretch as well but should be changed about one a year – the cost is not that expensive and you cleaning will improve almost double – this also applies for the Dyson DC04 and the Hoover vacuum as well – some of the Hoover vacuums have two (2) belts and they both should be changed @ the same time.

first you must remove the dirty water tank then the nozzle window on top of the machine. (this is the clear piece that the dirty water is sucked through.) then remove all 8 screws from the bottom along with the 1 screw on the main housing. after all this the top housing will be snapped into the base at two spots in the rear of the upper housing. when these are loose the housing should be out. you will find the turbine in the front along with 2 more screws and 2 hoses that also must come off. attach new part and reassemble.
