Lexmark C510 In moving my C510 across the country I neglected to pack the toner cartrdidges correctly, not putting protective coverings on rollers. Instead I wrapped each one in bubble wrap. Unpacking I can see that the rollers on each one got smudged.. Do you think they are damaged or ruined? Should I simply try them and see or is there something I can do to overcome the smudging effect? Spencer Selby

Thanks. I'm pretty sure my yellow toner is defective. It had a bunch of gaps on roller. Tried wiping it but gaps came back. I ordered new toner but fear this will not be entire solution. Most prints have one centimeter of lightness on left margin. I don't think this is caused by the yellow flaw. Wondering if this could be developer. Or maybe fuser.

Its not really a big deal. Could be just some ink that has leaked. All you got to do is wipe the rollers clean with a damp cloth and run off a few copies when the rollers are dry. You do not have to replace anything.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please post them here.

Hi,

Should work straight out except perhaps the first few pages that would be printed would be a bit smudged too. Alternately, you can wipe the rollers.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

You still try to use them but if they don't really work fine definitely they are already damage because of that, you may need to replace them so you can use the printer properly..

Hope that helps........

*************************************************

994 Service Engine Error on a Lexmark C510 ID: ENUS21233 If your printer is unable to move the photodeveloper belt to the correct position during printing, a 994 error will occur. However, it may simply be the case that the photodeveloper is either contaminated with excess toner or improperly installed. To test for and resolve this issue, please do the following:

  1. Power the printer off and remove the photodeveloper cartridge.
  2. Rotate the green metallic photodeveloper belt by manually turning the white drive gear on the bottom of the cartridge until the black positioning markers are visible.
  3. If necessary, carefully wipe any excess toner powder from the positioning markers using a soft, lint-free cloth or tissue.
  4. While the top cover of the printer is still open, inspect the sensor that is used to locate the positioning markers on the belt. CAUTION! The photodeveloper is very sensitive to light. Cover the green metallic surface of the photodeveloper with a piece of paper while it is outside the printer.
    • Refer to this image, this image, and this image to identify the location of the sensor.
    • Verify that the sensor has not come loose from its housing and that it is not contaminated with excess toner powder. If necessary, clean the sensor with a soft, lint-free cloth or tissue.
  5. Re-install the photodeveloper cartridge and power the printer back on.
  6. If the error remains, it is likely that a service call will be necessary to resolve this issue. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support, having first obtained the serial number of your printer. NOTE: If practicable, attempt to order another photodeveloper and replace it first to avoid the inconvenience of a potentially unnecessary service call.

Hi Spencer,

I found Lexmark's web and they have a ton of info. I narrowed it down to the user manual and on page 84 and 85 it has the paper quality troubleshooting:

Printer Color problems..

Seriously, buy a new printer. Companies sell toner, not printers! The printer is basically a "freebie" and is a marketing vehicle to sell toner. I tossed my C510 into the dumpster. It had four new toner cartridges. System diagnostics said that everything was at 95% or better. The printer had about 1600 prints on it. The first set of toner cartridges (full at purchase!) printed great. Then, I got dotted lines on clean prints. Or, I would get washed out, yellow tinted print and often, there was no black print. I called a printer repair shop and they laughed and told me to chuck the printer - they were suprised it lasted through the first set of cartridges. Lexmark literally "ignored me to death."

I will NEVER buy another Lexmark. The Brother and HP color lazers are probably the best bet. I have two HP B&W's that are paper pumps - an old 4V and a 6MP. The sad part is that I paid a bit more for the Lexmark than the competing HP. You live and then you learn!

Any time toner comes off the page it means that it's not being "fused" to the page by the hot rollers in the back. You may need to adjust your fuser temp. settings, or replace the fuser itself.
