How do check transmission fluid level in a 99 durango correctly ?

Either Park or Neutral is fine, but first you need to warm up the truck fully and then shift into every shifter position, pause for several seconds in each position, then LAST shift into either Park or Neutral to check the fluid level. The engine must remain running.

How do i shift a toyota camry with a dead battery into netural

on the left side on you shift stick is a small cap. remove the cap and push the button with a key and shift to neutral. make sure you have the parking brake ready to prevent the car from rolling.your food brake wont hold good if the engine don't run
the best is to replace or recharge the battery.

When I put van in park - it rolls backwards. all gears work except park... I have to put parking brakes on to stop rolling.

This is an internal issue with a broken "parking pall". If you can live with it, maintain your adjustment on the parking brake, if not, have a trusted transmission shop look at it. They may be able to do the repair inexpensively. This is not in anyway going to affect the shifting or performance of the transmission.

This is a tranmission linkage problem. The car may be in park but the linkage arm well sometimes slip of or sometimes just run crooked as you switch through the gears. My car has also done the same thing until I recapped the arm with a new lock washer
