I have a new Husqvana 316 electric chainsaw. I'm basically using it to cut small trees down, limb size in width. Trouble is it seems to take forever to cut through something even really small. I think I have the tension of the chain correct, enough oil too. Am I using the saw wrong, this is my first chainsaw. Would appreciate some help, Thanks,

You really didn't provide much info to work with - Knowing the make & model & size (as well as its age) would be helpful. Also is it new or have you had it for a while? What test equipment do you have? In other words, what are you using to determine if it is putting out electricity? Has it ever worked? All generators have individual circuit breakers, so try resetting those. If they trip-out immediately then disconnect the generator from the load. reset the circuit breaker(s) again & recheck the output some other way, such as by connecting a table lamp to it. If that works, then consider the possibility that your generator may be too small for the load that you're trying to connect to it. For example, a 2000 watt generator is good for a working load of 1000 watts but is too small for a 2000 watt load. If this is your first experience with a generator, check out the web site www.electricgenerators.com and refer to their sizing charts. Lots of good info there.
generators need a circuit to excite the windings in the alternator as there is no residual magnetism for this to happen
Same as on a car alternator where the battery supplies that power
there will be a small section that generates this power requirement before the full voltage cuts in
as most makes of generators ( invertors excepted) use the same basic schematics you should be able to down load the diagram from the net for your make or from a make the same rating as yours
Check that the choke isn't stuck...should be a small curved pin you slowly pull in and out. Check your manual for its location. If its stuck in one position that could be your problem. If you can't find your manual, do an online search; usually you can download one.
Very annoying is the word. In order for many on todays small engines to pass EPA regulations, the carburetor is set very lean. This makes them very hard to get started and warmed up. Once warm, most will run OK . Try choking a little 'til it is warmed up and running smoothly. Some have an adjustable main jet that can be opened a little to overcome this problem. Some are not adjustable and some have a small plastic cap over the adjusting screw. The plastic cap is supposed to be a tamper proof thing. If you still have trouble take it to the local small engine man. I am sure he has the cure or marbe he can adjust under warranty. Hope this helps. Robert
Hi John, I hate to tell you this but Tecumseh has gone out of business.Northern tools does have a starter kit item # 7005, but it does not include a solenoid, switch and battery. The kit sells for 129.99 +sh plus cost of battery, switch and solenoid. You must also have a toothed flywheel. You are looking at $200.00 plus to get this done by doing it yourself. If I where in your shoes I would save my money and concentrate on what is causing the difficulty with starting. I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of your problem lies with the ethanol that is now added into the gasoline you are using. Ethanol wreaks havoc with older small engines, it causes deterioration to fuel lines, gaskets and float valve needles. The gas has a shelf life of about 30 days, by then the ethanol has absorbed moisture from the air and sinks to the bottom of the tank. Just think of the way oil floats on water, that is basically what is happening in the tank on your generator. Now for the good news. Get rid of all the gas in the generator, change your fuel line to Tygon an ethanol safe material. If you are mechanically inclined, give the carburetor a thorough cleaning. If you are not sure about cleaning the carburetor, I highly recommend a product called Sea Foam. Get the spray can and follow the instructions on the can. With a small amount of new fuel start the engine and start spraying a small amount of Sea Foam directly into the carburetor, do not spray so much that it stalls the engine. DO NOT DO THIS IN AN ENCLOSED SPACE. The Sea Foam will produce a tremendous amount of smoke and I stress the word tremendous. The Sea Foam while cleaning the carburetor also removes carbon fouling in the engine and burns it, hence the smoke. Run the engine until it's out of gas. Store the generator when it's empty. I can't say enough about Sea Foam it has worked wonders for me. Getting ethanol free gas. Check out this website pure-gas.org I'm not sure where you live but if your close to a marina or a local small craft airport you can get ethanol free gas which has a much longer shelf life.Ethanol is so disastrous that the F.A.A. has banned it from use in small aircraft. Your cost to this will be under $20.00 and worth every penny.You should have nice smooth starts from now on. If it starts giving you trouble after awhile hit it with the Sea Foam again, and remember to store it empty. Good luck,Michael Burke

being a 2 stoke there isn't much to tune up. the MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER IN A 2 STROKE IS GAS AND OIL MIXTURE,too much oil will foul plug no big deal. replace plug. too little oil in gas will wash the crome lining in the cylinder off and you won't have the compression need to burn the gas any more. once you get that straight crank the saw and run it wide open, it should be quick to react to the trigger, that is no stumbling until it finally turns up. if it don't have a small screw driver handy and turn down the screw for the run mixture until it runs as fast as it can. also let idle. it should run on idle as long as you don't turn switch off. if it loads up and quits turn in idle screw until it does idle right . that's about it. also always make sure chain on bar isn't sagging too much when not running. a loose chanin will cause uneven wear on bar and make a crooked cut.keep chain sharp. they dull quick.NEVER leave gas in tank for long periods of time. after each use drain tank and start until motor runs itself dry.
